I am curious why some run 35" tires and some run smaller especially the size mentioned in the title. Especially when they are running the same lift. I imagine weight might be a factor but I don't know how much. Besides fit, what are your reasons?

Don’t really understand the question but I’ll take a stab at it. 295/70/18 is 34 and some change and not as wide as a true 35 so they fit much easier without doing major mods for clearance (cab mount chop). True 35” tires will vary slightly in size and weight between manufacturers. Some may be slightly over 35 and some under. 295 is the best looking tire for our trucks IMO.

    295/70/18 vs a 35x12.5x18, sample tire Cooper AT3XLT

    LT295/70/18
    E range
    12" wide
    34.25" diameter
    61lbs

    35x12.5x18LT
    E range
    12.5" wide
    34.96"
    66lb

Everything benefits the 295. Less rotational mass, less rolling resistance, better contact patch, etc.

A more comparable diameter would be LT285/75/18 which would be my personal choice over the previously mentioned 2.

    LT285/75/18
    E range
    11.5" wide
    34.84" diameter
    60lbs

Best rolling resistance, less rotational mass, works better with OE wheel width, etc

    I chose 35’s just so I could say I have 35’s. :)

For the Ridge grapplers, the 35 has deeper tread than the 295, so depending on your use, that could be a factor. That could translate into slightly longer life as well. I am on 295s now, going 35s or 37s next.
The ridge grappler 35s run small in height compared to other brand 35s

That all sounds pretty and all, but if you want clearance off the ground and off road ability, the 35x12.50 would be the better one. It’s taller and wider than any of the others. If you’re just building a pavement princess, then sure, go with the smaller tire that still looks cool.

Hahahah....so your telling me you are going to have a noticable offroad performance increase in .12" diameter difference between 35x12.5 and 285/75? Lol, come on man.

There are so many pros to the 34.84x11.5 vs the 34.96x12.5 that will benefit you during everyday use, which is far more occurring than wheeling. Plus, there has been a lot of discussion regarding the offroad performance of narrow vs wider tires. I bet your performance would be the same between the two ;)

Problem solved, get the Ridge Graps in a 285/75/18.

You'll gain .12" over the XLT 35s...

On a stock PRO how does a 285/75/18 fit vs the 295/70/18? I prefer the looks of the 285/75 but worried about its height. Probably better UCA clearance tho.

When referencing the XLT, the difference is .59" OD(so about 1/4" closer to front and rear of the fender well) unlikely you'll notice any issues.

My "true" 35s are like 33.5" on my land cruiser. 50/50 chance the 285s on my Tundra are taller than the "35s" lol

I have 295's now, but each time I see 35's on here they look significantly better to me. I like the extra width of the tire, looks beefier

FWIW, I run a 35x12.5x17 currently. My friends run 285/75/18s....they look HUGE compared to mine. Our trucks side by side, youd think I was on 33s compared to theirs.

I have 295s. They're Bridgestone Revo 3s that only weigh 55lb! Not bad at all for an E rated tire. I'll take the less rotational mass any day!

I wonder if anyone has some side by side or before and after pictures of those 3 different sets of tires.

295 height is very close to 35" height. I do like the width of 12.5 vs 295/70 but the 295 clear better.
I had 33" and 295. Might go for some 35s on my next set

Have 285/70's on my Pro now. Did the Wescott lift and now want either 305/70 or 35x12.50. The 35's are cheaper bc the 305/70 is an oddball size, but I want at least 2 credit cards to be able to slide bt the tire and UCA.

Wild! I can see that... I added fender flares to my truck so I tend to notice the width (even with a +12 offset) more than the height

295/70R18 Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT tires. Dog bench seat cover to keep the kids from ruining the leather.
Ty for the info on the different sizes.

picking out new tires for my pro that I’m about to pick up (arrives at dealer end of this week).

I’ve gone back and forth and am stuck between 295/70R18s and 285/75R18s.
I thought I was decided on 295 until I read this thread. Now I’m not sure again...

for reference I’m looking at Cooper AT3 XLT. It’ll mostly be on road but I plan on getting it dirty as much as possible.

anyone have any recommendations or insight? Does it really matter either way?

I don’t want to have to mod anything beyond the front mudflap.
    Thanks!
