I bought my 2005 SR5 Double Cab Silver Sky that came with a giant sunroof May of 2005. I owned the truck until April 2018 with 256K on the clock.

May 2005, I got the itch for a truck. Looked at the Tacoma double cab with long bed first, but bed was too shallow. Then, I say the Silver Sky DC with a roll down rear window like my similar to my '97 4Runner. I was sold! Got the 100k extended warranty that was never used.

I bought an undercover tonnoue cover and bedrug for it and that was it.

The 13 years cost of ownership was extremely low.

The most expensive service I got was timing belt kit/waterpump at 88K while it was still under the extended warranty. $880

Center carrier bearing and u-joints at 185K $200ish DIY

First and only spark plug at 165k, still good when it was replaced. DIY

Radiator, timing belt kit and water pump at 192K before 2 days before leaving for a 9 week cross country trip $400 DIY.

AIP fixed itself. Scanner to reset ECU. $100

Drove the Tundra across the country with 192K Jacksonville, FL - St. Luis, MO - Kansas City, MO - Geographic Center of the USA - Holdrege, NE - Boulder, CO - Moab, Utah - 4 Points Monument - Grand Canyon - Hoover Dam - Las Vegas, NV - Cambria, CA - Big Sur, CA - Sta. Cruz, CA - San Francisco, CA - San Jose, CA - Los Angeles, CA - San Diego, CA - Tuscon, AZ 200K - El Paso, TX - Austin, TX drove the last 1000 miles straight to back to Jacksonville, Fl!!!!

Did not had any issues even driving through 120F+ with the AC on high. That was an EPIC family trip.

My Tundra had traveled 33 States and 3 Maritime provinces.

I feel sorry for the people who did not have the same positive experience like I had with my 2005 Tundra. It is a very reliable truck. I still miss it after all this years.

So, please don't bash the 4.7 V8, it served me well for many years.

Who bashed the 4.7L? It's one of the most reliable engines Toyota has made.

    Right, among the most reliable 4Runners are the 4th gen V8s (4.7 of course). : ^ )))

    Some junk
I wish I had a little more power from time to time (gears would help too), but the 4.7 is a solid engine. I do wish Toyota would have punched it out to around 5.3 or so and gotten it up to maybe 330-350hp. 350hp in a first gen would probably feel like the a regular cab 2nd gen with the 5.7.

X2. Not sure the point of this thread. Sometimes people have to do something so they feel good about their purchase. Nothing wrong with most Toyota engines/products

I posted this as a counter to the grumpy old man. It's a testimonial of my experiences with the 4.7 and 1st gen.
