Hey y’all, I’m looking into a Toytec boss 3 inch suspension kit, was planning on doing 3 front and a 1 spacer in the back. It gives me an option to add new upper control arms, it’s like 800 extra. Do I need them? If so is there a better option? Thanks for your help!

I would. Look at jba or spc. You can find them closer to 500

Rule of thumb is getting above 2 or 2.5 inches puts you to needing new UCA’s for a proper alignment. With that said some people have gotten lucky and been able to stay with stock UCA’s and still get a decent alignment.

I personally would get new ones just for peace of mind. $800 once for arms is whole lot cheaper than chewing through tires because your alignments no good, at least that’s how I look at it

Might as well since the front end will already be worked on. You’ll have better alignment results

I was one of the lucky ones not needing them, but decided to change to camburg arms later on. Now i have rubbing on the upper arms. Throwing some spidertrax spacers on this weekend to solve that. They are currently out for delivery. Can't wait to get them on and hopefully be able to fully turn again without rubbing.

JBA or SPC will be $550-650 and are plenty good enough for that lift. I prefer SPC.

Ah, darn it. I've been eyeing new UCAs for better alignment and increased travel, but have been concerned about this. I only have about 1/8" clearance now, you're saying aftermarket arms are worse? Are there any that would provide better clearance to the tire? I really don't want to install spacers, as that will just make me want to get 13.5" wide tires and do a whole lot more :sawzall: and :welder::rofl:

Yes, get UCAs. It’s your budget, so you can buy whatever UCAs fit your price point. Several forum members run the brands already mentioned and they are good enough for most people. Three inches is where you want to add them. It makes life so much easier on you and the truck. Then you can easily fit 285/75R18 w no rub or 35x12.5R18. Or go 17 inch Icon wheels and jam 37s in there and do some cutting.

You can’t really assume that from his post. We do not know his lift or tire size setup.

Yes, I am assuming that, since he said he did his level, then later on, added the UCAs, then started to rub. So, I am assuming he had stock UCA initially after leveling the truck. Doesn't really matter his lift/wheel/tire combo, the point I was focusing on was clearance to one UCA vs. another when nothing else changed.

For what it's worth, I'm running the TRD Pro Suspension with Coachbuilder shims 2 per side plus Westcott Designs custom collar for just about 3.5 inches of total lift in the front. Stock TRD Offroad rims with 295/70/18 Cooper AT3 XLT's. I had zero alignment issues and no rubbing with the stock upper control arms. I later removed the stock uppers and added Camburg uniball upper arms, but then I had some slight rubbing on the Camburgs. My Spidertrax spacers just came in this afternoon - will get them installed on Saturday when I have some time. Here's where I had slight rub (seen on the decal).20200326_161741.jpg

Will do. I actually grabbed a Pedal Commander too when I bought the spacers, looking forward to testing that out given the reviews. Hoping to tackle on Saturday, but trying to snag a new 1/2" torque wrench before doing the spacer install.

That’s very odd you have rubbing with that tire size and lift with the camburgs. I have total chaos UCAs and Bilstein 6112 on top setting with 18 inch Method (+18 offset) on Toyo AT III 285/75R18 with zero issues at all and no rub anywhere. Prior to the toyos I had the Cooper AT3 XLT in the same size on SCS Ray 10s with a +25 offset and zero issues. That’s weird you need spacers and have rubbing.

Side note. Put the PC in Sport plus and hammer it. Good luck.

I went under and glanced at it this afternoon and it looks like I also have some rubbing on the front sway bar too on both sides. I sure hope the spacers take care of it.

Ya I’d like to know how the PC works out? How snappy you find the throttle is. Considering that mod too. Please do a write up if you have time. Good Luck Sir.

This is really odd to me. When is the last time you had a proper alignment done and do you have the numbers?

It is beyond snappy in Sport plus mode. Like, Pay for it, click it in to instal ( takes a few minutes) go to sport plus and gas it. You will forget how much you paid for it instantly. It’s a straight up silly fun mod.

Will do. I was considering getting the pedal commander for a long time, but never jumped on it even after a few sales. Every so often I would always come across great reviews and I'd consider it again, but never followed through. Since I was on the Toytec site ordering the wheel spacers I was looking around and it caught my eye again. Since I was already ordering from them and paying shipping I thought why not give it a try.

By the way Ter, I put all of your items to good use (mirror caps, fumoto valve, and the arb dif breather) here are a couple pictures.

Alignment was done in late February when I had the new tires and coachbuilder shims installed along with too many other things (went a bit overboard). I don't have the specs from the alignment. Drives centered, tires have 7k on them since alignment and look to be wearing even.

I'll post up the results on Saturday. Just noticed today it also rubs on the sway bar too.
