    Hello

I've searched the forum and have not seen my question specifically asked/answered.

I have a 1st gen tundra, 2004 double cab. I've considered a number of tires sizes and currently have my eyes on a 315/75R16 set up. I would like to install these on a 16x10 wheel.

What do I need for back spacing so I do not contact the frame when turning lock to lock?

I’m the last guy to ask as I consulted my tire installers on this question back in 2003. They said 285/75/r16 is the biggest. It rubs very slightly on inside frame on slow parking spot turnings going forward. A 2002 Access Cab.

My opinion is you are going to big, but you’ll get other advice on cutting/trimming/denting in frame with big hammers etc from others who have gone bigger. Probs need spacers, as well.

Good luck getting that to fit....go here and use the offset calculator so compare stock to what you want.

It's almost a 35x12.5 with proper back spacing I don't see why this would not fit. I know a healthy amount of trimming is necessary depending on the amount of lift used.

You should be fine with something like 4.00 or 3.5 backspace for those tires. Plus you’ll probably need something of this nature:

I think the carriage of my great great gram pa, who stood in for The Declaration of Independence as a hand model signer, probably rode better that this truck.

I do like that color of red spoke though!

Basically its your truck and its up to you to make it happen. You’ll end up doing what it takes after you get your tires. Post up after photos so others can have something to go off when they ask about what you are asking.

Just a little trimming, not a big deal.

To be fair I used more of a hammer and fold method, but that method works too. The knowledge is out there op. I would guess backspacing around 3.5-4" might work because my 17x8 wheels with 4.75" be and 1.25" spacers cleared the upper control arm by not much and the frame was kissed at full lock. This was with a 315 70 17 so yours should be a little easier to clear.

I would go with 3.5 BS minimum.
If you touch frame with that you’ll just be rubbing paint off.
I ran a 16x8 with 3.75 bs on a 315/75 and wheeled the piss out of my truck with that combo. Never once did rubbing paint off the frame keep me from going anywhere. Be ready to tub the firewall unless you have at least 6” suspension or 3” suspension and 3” body lift.

Who is making a body lift for the first gen? I am planning on tubbing the fenders to make the tires fit. I have found a 16x10 with 4 inch back spacing from 4wheelparts.com

Yes, to me a 3 inch body lift is hideous and probably not a great option.
So basically the RCD lift or tuff country drop bracket/spindle lift plus a 1 inch body lift like scuba suggests. That would look pretty sweet with those 35’s.

I see some ugly wheels on this forum but those are terrible. I'm not sure what people think sometimes.

Just my personal opinion, but I'd rather spend a few hours tubbing the fenders/ firewall (like I did) rather than more time with a body lift.

-6" RCD lift in front. -Custom leaf springs in rear 4" lift. -17" race line, raptor wheels. -35" Goodyear Duratrac. -4.88 gears. -ARB rear air locker. -ARB air compressor and tank. -Custom front sway bar quick disconnect -Custom one piece driveshaft -Black Oak Led 40 watt ditch lights.
I would recommend the rcd 6 inch lift to get 35's or 315's under it. Then your truck would look sweet like this! 20181209_094700.jpg

If you are tubbing why bother with a body lift? 4" backspacing will need a lot of tub and you'll still hit frame. The magic range is 3.5" on every first gen I have seen tuck 35s without a bracket lift.

Are you 4wd or 2wd? If 2wd and don't mind losing ABS you could run a coilover and Solo spindles and clear 35s with minimal trimming, then get a set of custom leaf for the rear and be done.

You can always cut the fenders to clear. Not that bad of a job to do honestly.

Your suspension is a bit different though, did you run 35s before you built it?

Yeah but only briefly without fiberglass front fenders. I ran 35s for about a year before building the suspension.
