    Hi all!

I know this has been beaten to absolute death on here, but I think I’ve scrolled through 85% of the related posts on the forum and just wanted to get some recent thinking.

looking at putting on one of the above sizes on my 2020 SR5 Double Cab 4WD.

She has 5100’s on the front at top setting, with the 1” lift CB Shims. Rear has the Toytec Shackles set at 1” setting. So looking at roughly 3.5” of lift up front currently. Also have XD Grenade wheels which are 18x9 with a +18mm offset!

I am totally open to getting a CMC if necessary, but don’t think I will re-gear with either option. I do about 80% highway driving and 20% slow rolling through ranch roads on the weekend.

Any feedback from folks that have gone with either size with a similar setup?

I’m currently looking at the usual suspects.. Nitto RG’s, Toyo OC AT3’s, OC R/T trails etc… the Open Country R/T Trail’s 35x12.5r18 size looks to only weigh about 66lbs per tire which seems pretty light for that size so that’s tempting.

thanks for any feedback or photos, really want to just get the best looking option, I feel both will perform for what I do!

Stock wheels? If so, I think you might need spacers to clear 12.5 wide. Also heard of shops refusing to mount 12.5 wide on the narrow wheel.

I’m planning to go with the 285/75 18 my next set. Currently on 285/70.

Ohh that is a very import piece of info I left out . Thanks for reminder.. currently have the XD Grenade’s and I believe they are 18x9 with a +18mm offset!

285/75R18 on 18x9 +18 wheels. 6112 set at 1.9” with 3/8” shim/spacer in the front, 5160 rear with RAS HD set at 1”. Only slight rub at full lock in reverse. I have bumper spacers but have been too lazy to install since rub is minimal, besides rub will be gone once I install my new front bumper

285/75/18 here. 3/1.5 lift. Some rubbing on the front finder liner. Heat gun took care of that. No CMC needed. No re-grear needed. MPG improved on the highway by about .5 MPG over my old 295/70/18 Toyo AT2.

285/75/18 looks way too skinny on our big cab tundras. Don’t regret not going to full size 35s

I don’t think so. But my main priority isn’t looks. If the goal is maximum sidewall and ground clearance with no cutting, 285/75s are where it’s at.

Mine are 63 lb each instead of 75.

I’m on OEM TRD Pro suspension. Aside from removing the little mud flap in front of the front tires, I’ve done nothing. A 2” lift up front and an alignment is all you need.

I’m going 285/75 - 18 over 35x12.5. More clearance and less mud on my truck.

Really having a hard time with the decision. Really want to have a shop put both sizes on so I can see the difference. Only concern is 12.5 sticking out to far, but have seen some trucks on here where they dount stick out much at all

They are Milestar Patagonia X/T https://milestartires.com/light-trucks/patagonia-xt/
They are a bit heavy but have been a great tire so far on minimum maintenance gravel roads and in snow and ice. Hope to test them out a bit more next summer on rougher terrain.

Ofcourse, as everyone is entitled to their opinions and choices. But I did notice that most with 285s posting only side photos.

Sticking out is based on offset, not necessarily on tire width….in most cases.

So far so good @Shagman82 . I have heard great reviews on the Kenda RT. They are pretty quiet for such an aggressive tire. They performed great in the rain we had last week. They do pick up rocks so I am glad I went with the 285/75/18 instead of a 35x12.5. I found them on EBay for a little over $1,200 delivered to my door. Time will tell but if I can get 35k-45k miles out of the that will fine with me.
