After a recent off-road trip, I decided to go for it and cram 37s on my Tundra. I think the extra clearance will allow me to get over obstacles that are currently a bit sketch. I read the coastal offroad article, and it seems between +15 and +25 will work.

I just ordered the wheels and tires, 37x11.50 recon grapplers on 17x8.5r17 KMC 717s with 18mm offsets. I am down for an aggressive chop to get these things on.

I selected 18mm because I got a good price, the wheels are light, and in that offset range. But someone just told me 25mm offsets are easier. Is it worth stressing about the extra quarter of an inch? I wish I went with 25mm offset, but maybe its not worth crying over at this point. Any opinions? If I can, should I pay more per wheel and go 25mm Methods (17x8xr17)? It may not be possible to change the wheel order at this point. And I'm chopping no matter what I get.

For the curious, my build plans are:

2.5 front lift, Bilstein 6112/5160 with SPC UCA. I don't drive real fast, so good enough.
1 inch lift in rear with shackle. Maybe in a couple years I will upgrade to 8112/8100 after I forget how much I am spending.

4.88 gears + rear e-locker. 4.88 is the highest I can go with the 4.6L. Front locker was real tempting, I'm hoping ATRAC in front will be good enough with the rear. Generally I drive over big rocks not steep dirt.

More skids. I only have OEM engine skid and RCI rock sliders.

If I can figure out a front sway bar disconnect that would be awesome, or just carry around a wrench.

All the info you need can be found here. Trucks with +25 to a bit negative offset. I think you will be good at +18 if you do the other work. Overall plans sound good, but have heard more are happy with 5.29 over 4.88 gears. Not speaking from experience, since I’m still on 35s. Good luck.

5.29s are unfortunately not an option for the 4.6L Tundra. Looking at the tire size-gear charts floating around, 4.88 should still be in a good enough range. This truck with 33s on 3.9 gears feels stupid powerful to me, but my daily driver is a Honda Fit, so maybe its a comparison thing.

I like the rear bumper, that build is awesome.
