Finally!! - I’ve just completed testing a high quality locking gas cap for the 3rd Generation Tundras, 2022+. It’s from Stant, a long time manufacturer of quality caps and the only aftermarket cap endorsed by Toyota. *Stant #10504* It’s the same cap recommended for my 3rd Gen Tacoma. I’ve run a tank on my ‘23 Limited after installing it and no emissions warnings were received. The O-ring seal is a perfect match. **IMPORTANT TIP- After you lock the cap, spin the cap so the knob handles are in the 9oclock/3oclock horizontal position. That allows the fuel door to close fully. Any other angle and the caps knobs will slightly hold the fuel door open***
My Toyo dealer parts dept wants $36 for this cap. You can find it at O’Reilly Auto Parts for $16.99. You can reconnect the tether if you want it with a plastic body plug or a screw. Pop the old one loose to remove with a small screw driver.
*Stant currently has no fitment entries for the Gen3 Tundra and failed to answer my emails.

How much clearance between the cap and door on your truck? I wonder if manufacturing and filler door and fuel tube neck installation tolerances might cause trouble for some of us even if placed in the correct orientation??

Thieves just punch a hole in the tank...I've yet to see someone pop a cap of and siphon it out. 3 coworkers have had holes punched in their trucks tanks

We already had this discussion but this would help prevent sugar-in-the-tank vandalism from eco warriors or crazy ex-girlfriends.

With the cap knobs at 9/3 my door is hitting its normal rubber stops. I found only when the bottom knob is at 6 or 7oclock does it lift the door from the rubber stops.

Sounds good, but if some of us have a filler tube that sits out even 1/4" more than yours it might still lift the door. IDK, I'd like to come try yours on my truck for fit... but you are 3000 miles away!

Police just caught 2 guys in a BMW with a fuel pump mounted in the trunk with a long thin fuel hose. Thieves will be thieves. We can only stop some of them. I mainly dont want junk put in there.

It's always returnable. I know NAPA used to sell Stant as well. I worked there. Im sure though it will be more than at O'Reilly.

Heads-Up - A few days ago when I started the truck first time for the day I got a Check Engine Light and an error in the display reading “Parking Support Brake Malfunction. See your Dealer” Oh crap, here we go!! Hooked up my ECU scanner and it was an Evap leak. Checked my Locking cap and it wasn’t cranked down tight. Erased the code and all is fine. What a stupid code to show for a cap leak!! Not only a dumb code but it disables both cruise controls and the pre-collision system. Really? Come to find out this is the standard dash warning thrown for dozens of issues that have nothing to do with brakes. Beware!

What country do you live in? Not in the USA in 2023. Theives can afford cars now and are highly mobile. And as coordinated as the Mafia.

The latest 2023 TRD Pro has a locking fuel door in case anyone want to leverage replacement parts from that vehicle. Just my two cents. :notsure:

I wonder if anyone with the non locking fuel door has installed the OEM locking fuel door and if it's possible to do so?

Haven't heard of anyone trying here. I highly doubt the harness is there from the door to the dash control panel where the switch is normally located.
Sure would have been nice to have that option in yet another package ;-)

Honestly this should have been a standard feature when consumers are paying well over $50k for a pickup truck - not sure what Toyota was thinking here.

True, but if you look below/behind the side wall there is a pull cord to open the locking fuel door in case the switch/electronics quit working.

    What's the difference between 10504 vs 10504KA ?

Hmmm. That’s interesting. So maybe there’s a chance for a simple manually operated locking door.

Let us know how that works out. I tried two of these No-Name caps and both threw codes on the Tacoma.
