I have a 2017 tundra with the 4.6l 1UR-FE, I was wondering if it is possible to swap a 5 or 6 speed transmission just for fun. I don't care whether or not it's reasonable or too expensive, I understand the amount of fabrication and shop hours that would go into doing something like this and I have access to just about 99% of the things I would need to do it myself. I also understand the ECU would be a concern. I looked everywhere and I can't find any information about whether or not it is DOABLE. If anyone has any information on why this would work or not, or possibly direct me to someone that has done something similar, that would be greatly appreciated.

You could run a standalone ECM like AEM or Haltech to bypass the headache of removing the stock automatic from the equation. I've never dealt with one before, so i can't speak from experience, but IIRC, I've seen shops run the Accessory portion of the vehicle electronics off the factory ECM and the engine off of the standalone unit. Matching bellhousing patterns is pretty straightforward these days with an adapter plate like mentioned above, though you may have to have a custom one made. If your truck is four wheel drive, that presents another issue, but a divorced transfer case would work with a manual front axle disconnect. Certain systems like traction control and vehicle stability may also be compromised, but maybe not...
