I know most of you guys seem to have the 5.7 engine, but I have a 2007 sr5 4.7 with now a 114,000 miles on it what problems have you guys with that engine had? I have had the timing belt changed at 92,000 is there anything I need to be looking out for,i think it calls for plug replacement at 120,000.I purchased it with 82,000 on it,records said that the air pumps had been done.At this time it is running fine no problems.I did take it to Toyota dealer to get transmission fluid checked at 100,000 and they said it was fine and to not worry about flushing it and to leave it alone since it was working fine.I just want to know if there is anything I need to worry about, this will be my last vehicle for a while. My wife is up next for a new car she has 2000 sr5 4runner with 300,000 on it runs good, dash lights and radio lights don't work and back bumper is rusting out, tough as nails. Thanks

The 4.7 is a great engine. The only thing I ever did to mine was replace water pump and timing belt at 100k.

The main problem associated with it is the secondary air pump failure. The valve gets stuck shut or open during cold temps and throws a code. Since this feature is only used to control emissions under a cold start, it isn't necessary and can be bypassed with a simple module if that problem comes up.

Other than that the 4.7's were pretty bulletproof. Keep up with regular maintenance and it should last you a very long time.

My 06 with the 4.7L has just a bit over 190,000 miles on it. I change the oil every 5k. Today, I did the T-belt/water pump. Original belt. No cracks, no stress Mark's. Looked great. Only did it because of the mileage. Look up the million mile tundra. It had a 4.7 in it.

I had a code for bank 2 sensor 2 on my 07 4.7. Ended up spending 500 and replaced all 4 sensors with OEM parts. Never had a problem since. Very easy to do and piece of mind all 4 are replaced new. And a huge fraction of the price a mechanic would do it for.

I also had to replace sensors in mine but , that's about it. I had a 2001 with the 4.7. You have a great engine. Sold mine at 309,000 miles and still had plenty of power. Yours is just now broke in. Keep your throttle body cleaned out and with regular oil and filter changes your engine should last for many miles. The only downside with the 4.7 is the starter placement.

I was going to say to look at the million mile tundra. The report on that truck was unbelievable after that many miles and it still checked out with high QC marks. I have the 4.7L in mine also, and haven't had any problems. 132k miles on it, I replace the water pump, timing belt and serpentine belt at 100k, plugs at 125k, and had the transmission fluid changed at probably 120k also. I did have the AIP stuff replaced under warranty. Stay on top of the regular maintenance and you should be good!!

I should clarify that while I am still searching for a truck and waiting for funds to become available, I am definitely considering the 4.7, as it is a proven engine.

    Isn't the 07 and up a 4.6L and a 4.7L for 2006 and below.?

I think they offered the 4.7 L in the second generation tundra just for 2007. Then the 4.6 L became the new deal.

I always found it somewhat confusing. It seems the 2010 and up got the 4.6L's.

I believe 4.7L was changed over in 2010. My 2008 has the 4.7L also, and I think they made them for 2009 as well.

Yeah I think I was mistaken. But I knew that they put the 4.7 L in the second gen that’s for sure.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
It is a completely different engine, it is the UR series (4.6l) motor vs a UZ series (4.7l).

Yes and no timing belt on the 4.6 L as well as more horsepower. That’s all I know about it LOL are they dimensionally the same? Could you theoretically drop a 4.6 L in a first Gen tundra?

39 more hp, maintenance free chain drive cams and hydraulic valve actuators (like the 5.7). It appears as though the 4.6 is only offered in the Tundra. Too bad it isn't available in the Taco and 4 Runner.
