Hey guys I’ve got a thunder grey 01’ 4.7 tundra with a knock off air intake, never even crossed my mind until I went to renew the registration and have it smogged and the guy came up to me asking where the k&n carb sticker is. He truly thought it was a k&n intake but it’s just got a sticker slapped on it. Anyways he said, because I have a k&n intake, I can request a new carb sticker from them. I read into it but you have to send them proof of either the product installed or your receipt along with your Vin number so for me, the only issue is the photo since I can’t provide receipt. So my question is, would anybody on here who has a gray or silver 4.7 tundra with a k&n intake on it be willing to help me out with a photo so I can get the carb sticker and have it smogged? I’ve got less than a week to smog it so I’m kind of in a bind and me and my wife are struggling financially at the moment. Thanks if anyone is willing to help I’d greatly appreciate it.

Can't help you, but that brake fluid in the master cylinder looks like it was never changed.

If there’s a junkyard with a Tundra nearby, pull the intake and replace that K&N HOT AIR intake with the factory cold air intake. I have a 2000 Thunder Grey myself, but no K&N installed. Sorry can’t help with that part.

This'n right cheer, check https://www.car-part.com/ to see if there's one near you. Any 4.7 Tundra or Sequoia from 2001 (and possibly from 200-2003) should be an exact fit in your truck. Can anyone help OP out here if there are other years where they're interchangeable, e.g., 2000-2006 Tundra/2007 Sequoia?

Get rid of it. Couple of YouTube videos that've passed through here show two fun side effects of hot air intake systems (even K&N's legit one): A loss of power, and significantly more dirt entering the engine.

It's proven garbage. Take it out. Go buy a complete OEM assembly from the junkyard for $50 and send the K&N knockoff to the recycler where it belongs.

Do yourself a favor, as a new owner, you really should read the first couple replies in this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

All that that intake is doing is pulling in hot air from the engine bay. I'd go back to stock if possible. Time to go to a junkyard.

Yank that sticker off, Paint it black, roll it around in in a mud puddle, let it dry, put in back on and go get it tested again.

Iv seen ppl do a trade on offer up, k&N intake for someone’s stock intake.

Or hit the junk yard, I got mine for $30-40$ just pay for the Plastic and leave the air sensor

Another option might be to ask around about a smog shop that’ll ‘overlook’ something like that. I had a car back in the day (in California) with a CAI, and many other mods, knew a shop that would test it as is and so long as it passed otherwise they would pass the visual inspection. That car passed cleaner than stock too.

Yeah I’ve had a truck for four years now, and nobody’s ever mentioned anything about a carb sticker. The guy I usually go to close the shop down so this is why I’m dealing with this because I have to try a new shop. I’m gonna try another shop tomorrow and see if they say anything

It’s actually not as bad as it hooks. It’s been done before, but the reservoir is stained that color I just need to take the time to siphon it out and clean it. I’m glad you’re the kind of guy that pays attention to stuff like that though

The people in California don’t know what they want, they vote out of ignorance and hatred for the other side, they’re brainwashed. I mean, I have a neighbor that told me he believes everything the news and media tells him on TV because they are the professionals he says.

Guys - can appreciate where you're going with this, but truck forum with a strict no-politics rule to avoid sowing divides at a place where we otherwise all agree, Tundras are pretty f'n awesome.

I personally don't think y'all haven't gotten there yet, but who knows what someone else may interpret. We never like seeing anyone taking a 3-7 day vacation, so I'm tossing it out there.

I'm in Cuba-fornia as well . . . I believe you can file for a DMV extension to get your truck smogged without getting ding'd.
Then you have a little breathing room.
Like @shifty` mentioned above, get rid of that contraption and get an OEM one put back on there . . . you'll thank him later.

I think the OP might have another problem... it doesn't look like K&N makes a CARB certified intake, so there may not even be a sticker available. https://www.knfilters.com/cold-air-intakes/toyota/tundra/4.7l-v8-gas/2001

Edit: nevermind, looks like it was a different (but same?) 57-9014, with CARB EO D-269-20 https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/sites/default/files/aftermarket/devices/eo/d-269-18.pdf
    From https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/applications/aftermarket-parts-database

Amazon has one with free returns... which could generate a receipt to satisfy K&N's CARB EO decal replacment page. Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Cold-Air-Int...8OPI&keywords=57-9014&sprefix=,aps,189&sr=8-2

It's also possible to cancel Amazon orders before shipping https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GSL37WQTJZUYA9QE

I'm from Massachusetts originally, but have lived in California for the last 17 years, and let me tell you, rust-free Tundras are wicked sick, kid!

Edit: OP, not sure where you are in the state, but there are 2 Toyota-specific junkyards around Sacramento that will definitely have an OEM airbox. One is called Rancho Toyota Recycling. @Decline225

Yup. Delete that K&N junk. OEM air box makes more power. Agree your PS and brake fluid need changing. Can only see a corner of the coolant overflow but it looks nasty as well.
