I have a 2011 tundra, 100k miles, and tonight when driving home my 4hi and 4lo light started blinking, while ABS and traction control light are solid. According to a chart I seen this combination of lights means “transfer case shift failure”. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this in the past and if there’s anything easy I should start with that may fix this problem. Thanks.

Had a similar issue last month. Could not engage 4x4 as a result. Turned out to be the DS front ABS sensor. I replaced the sensor and problem went away.

Thanks for the response, really hoping it is just a sensor or something. Did you have the same light combination as this? I also believe it went off while the ABS system was active as the road were bad last night and I was sliding a bit when it started.

Can’t recall. I did take pics of the dash lights, but have since deleted them.
It all started when my daughter owned the vehicle, which I’ve now “inherited”. I do know the ABS light was on. This then caused the 4Hi light to flash. She took it to a local garage who diagnosed the faulty ABS sensor. They said they cleaned up some grease from around the sensor inside the hub, but a few days later the issue reappeared. This combined with a leaking coolant issue was enough for her to decide to buy another Tundra. Since she still owed me money for the first Tundra, it became mine. Lol! I went to the garage to confirm what my daughter had told me, and ordered a cheap sensor on Amazon and replaced it.

Sounds like you got a great deal on that one lol. Thanks again, I only recently purchased this truck, I’ve known quite a few guys with this style of tundra with a lot of miles and not many issues but I’ve only owned it a few weeks and haven’t been so lucky. Already replaced cv axles and exhaust manifold, now this. I’m going to pick up a good scanner today to take the guess work out of it and go from there. Thanks again

I have seen this but also have seen some people online saying they had the same issue and it was to do with the ABS system. I just scanned the vehicle and got the following :

    C1201 -EV control system malfunction
C1241- low or high power supply voltage
C1333- open circuit in left rear wheel speed sensor circuit

don’t have time to dig into it any further today but I will get it in the garage and inspect the wiring and sensor back there. Could these all be caused by a faulty sensor? Or is it more likely a break in the wire or something going on with the ABS module. It’s worth noting I had some work done on the rear brakes last week

Agree. Check connector at sensor. Make sure there is no damage/corrosion. If not, then I would replace the sensor. Mine was rusted in place and I ended up breaking off the top section. Checked YT, and did the red-hot screw pushed/screwed into the sensor body. Was then able to pry it out easy peasy using the screw head as a ledge to pry against.

So I finally got a chance to get at this, replaced the sensor and cleared the codes, same lights came back on the dash but only the c1333 code came back (open circuit in left rear wheel speed sensor circuit).. connectors and wires all look good

I seen another thread about cleaning the harness connection at the abs module, I’ll try that tomorrow and see what happens. Try the easy stuff first before this spending another small fortune at the garage

when you checked the sensors at the wheel were they junked up with stinky grease? If so, axel bearings are needed.

Picked up an 08 4x4 5.7 4door Tundra, has a P0500 code. No speedometer, ABS and BRAKE mils are on, 4hi-4lo are flashing. Also have a tire light, but no other lights. Replaced right front wheel speed sensor, it was obviously cracked and corroded, didn't fix the problem. Other sensors all visually look good, and wiring doesn't seem to be damaged. Checked the output speed sensor harness on the pass side of the transmission; it had no continuity. It has a black and yellow wire coming out of it, I tried to trace it up to where it ends, but cannot find the other end of the harness, and I don't see a yellow wire near the plug next the the fuse box, where the other front wheel speed sensor wire also ties into. Can anyone point me in the direction of where the other end of the Output VSS harness goes so that I can run some new wires? I'm assuming there's a break somewhere, or am I incorrect in assuming there should be continuity at this harness?
