    Than my 2013 CrewMax.

My wife was wanting to go get some more pavers for a landscaping project. She wanted to come up to my work and get the truck. So, I looked up the payload on her vehicle (2016 4Runner). It has almost 200 more lbs of payload.

Good grief. The payload on these trucks is really not that great.....

sure is. Tacomas too. I had a 2004 Ford Sporttrac and while I never compared the actual rated numbers to my Tacoma it would carry quite a bit more. My ex loaded close to a pallet of stone in it. Same load in the Tacoma and the rear tires would be rubbing the fender liners.

Yeah, definitely not the engine - plenty of capability there. It is a combo of the springs and the fact that it is a CrewMax. That extra cab space is heavy and eats into the payload significantly. I was just surprised at how much the 4Runner payload was.

Our Polaris Ranger 570 at work is close to the Tundra payload. 570cc single cylinder engine with a CVT...

Agreed. After doing a concrete project at my house and having to make 3 trips to Home Depot just to bring all of the concrete home I decided I need a trailer. Can tow almost 10,000 lbs but can only haul like 1600? Dumb.

Not even that. My CrewMax door sticker says 1375. Take away about 100 lbs in skid plates and add myself, and I am down to 1050 lbs.

It's hard to believe this, because my '13 F-150 had a higher payload rating (somewhere around 1,900-2,000 lbs the way mine was equipped, I think), but it sagged like hell with my four wheeler in the bed or the boat loaded on the hitch. The Tundra doesn't sag one bit.
