50/50 "Toyota" Engine Coolant 2014 Tundra

    So what's the deal with "Toyota" coolant. Getting ready to go to Colorado for 10 days and along with new brake rotors (time for new and open to suggestions), and an Icon Stage 8 suspension in two weeks, noticed my coolant is low. Is there actually "Toyota" coolant or will any 50/50 work and do you have to flush the system if you add something besides pink?

    You could do a drain and fill with Zerex Pink for Asian Vehicles. Its HOAT (hybrid organic additive tech) thats phosphate enhanced for Toyota/Lexus.

    Drain the radiator and the two plugs on the block. Plug it back up and fill it. Run it with the heater on and squeeze the tubes to burp. Parking on a strong incline helps the burping process. Might take a few small top offs to get the levels proper.

    As an added measure, I like to disconnect the heater core hoses and pour new coolant in till the fresh runs through it. The reason being the heater core traps a small amount of coolant for which there is no refresh/draining capability except the process described above.

    Only concern is why are you losing/low on coolant now?

    Heads up that the fluid level changes with the temperature of engine. The hotter and the fluid reads higher. Checking when cold will show lower.

    Just tried to respond with pic from my phone but not sure it went through. Actually looks lower today. Been over 100 the last two days. It's been sitting for about an hour now and it's below the low mark.

    What coolant is in it now? That doesn't look pink in the photo.

    Probably should do a flush and fill with HOAT coolant. It's about time.

    Not sure and can’t make out the low line, but you are at 5 years on your coolant so drain and fill as above. Keep and eye on the levels. Once you have it topped off to full make sure it stays there (hot/level and full).

    Whatever it is, it has a greenish-blue hue to it. Doesn't appear to be Toyota coolant. Worst case, it's more water than anti-freeze, If you park outside, better get it changed before winter.

    Toyota pretty much invented the HOAT anti-freeze technology. Any anti-freeze will work if you flush the system well, but HOAT chemistry is superior to the old green Prestone ethylene glycol in terms of corrosion resistance. It tends to be pricey from Toyota, and HOAT anti-freeze from Zerex would be the way to go. It has always been reddish-pink in color, but is in no way related to the safe pink anti-freeze used in RV water systems (propylene glycol). It was once available from Toyota as concentrate or 50/50. Not sure if they even sell the concentrate anymore. If you buy concentrate, mix with distilled water to minimize minerals introduced into the system.
