So I am ready now for the 5k maintenance on my 2024 Hybrid. I understand this to be just a routine check of fluids, etc. Is it standard practice for the dealership to charge for this? The dealership that I am scheduled at has it priced for $25. Thank-you

Nope, toyotacare is 2 year no cost maintenance, every 5k miles.

    5,000 Miles or 6 months
    • Rotate tires.
    • Visually inspect brakes, wiper blades, and fluid levels.
    • Top off any fluids that may need it.
    • Check the installation of all floor mats.

Are you going to have them change the oil? It's scheduled for 10k and 20k but you get 2 and you can request this as the freebie or just pay. Highly recommended unless you're doing it yourself or somewhere else and documenting it.

What's with the "Check the installation of floor mats" on every service? Seems odd.

It's a remnant from a lawsuit years ago some Dufus supposedly was doing 100mph in a Prius and claimed the throttle stuck...turned out they had 2 floor mats and they were interfering with the pedals...Toyota never lived it down lol...people are just foolish they don't want a spec of dirt to get on the carpet so they put rubber mats on top of carpet mats and they get bunched up interfering with proper pedal operation...one mat is plenty people!

Interesting. I have Toyota Care and my dealer scheduled me for a 10K oil change/checkup. Should you do an Oil change before that at 5K miles?

I’m a 10k oci guy but I also am in the camp of getting the break in oil changed at not much more than 1k
That’s just personal preference I bet less than 5% of new truck owners go against mfg recommendations

I wonder if it is $25 out of pocket just in case someone doesn’t have ToyotaCare? As for the the oil, I go 5000 miles just to be on the safe side (I posted 5000 mile intervals on the forum before and it was deleted by the mods for “shit posting”).

OP are you keeping the truck or most likely trading or selling at under 60k miles? Keeping I'd change every 5000, otherwise whatever it's just an appliance and warranty requirement satisfied with 10k changes...fyi the turbos are only serviceable with cab removed from chassis...not inexpensive out of warranty.

I have an extended warranty for something like 10 years through Toyota (purchased at time of tundra purchase) I plan on having oil changed every 10k, I also have new tires I put on the truck last month (no need for rotation) not sure I really need to go into the dealer at 5k to have my mats checked?????

Let them check the truck to keep your warranty maintenance record just in case.

It wasn't some dufus. It was a California Highway Patrol officer driving a Lexus. He, and his family (wife and kids) died in the accident. This goes much deeper than double-stacked floor mats. Toyota paid a $1 billion fine and spent over one billion more on settlements with victims of the sudden unintended acceleration problem. No company pays willingly more than 2 billion dollars while being innocent. Toyota can hire excellent lawyers, but the facts were clear. Toyota ignored a safety problem for years, and was justifiably punished for it.
There are at least 30 fatalities due to Toyota SUA, and the real number is probably much higher. Toyota settled these cases paying millions to the victims' families. The evidence of Toyota's guilt was compeling and paying billions was a cheaper solution than letting the truth come out in a trial.

That accident happened less than ten miles from my house. He was driving a Lexus ES350. At the time we also had a ES350. I believe he was driving the Lexus as a loaner. He panicked and apparently overlooked two safety measures he could have attempted. Pressing and holding the push-start button would have turned off the engine, which at the time I didn’t know about. A quicker measure, that I did know about, would have been to place the transmission in neutral - on virtually all automatic transmissions, you can move the shifter to neutral at any speed.

OP, I recommend change the oil now also, if you plan on keeping the truck a long time. I recently changed oil with 900 miles on daughter’s 2024 Corolla. It takes 0W/8, yes 8. No one around here carries it, not even the dealer. They’ve been using 0W/16 until the thinner stuff comes in.

I have a 2024 Tundra Hybrid TRD Pro and I just returned home from dealership. I brought my truck in and them do my break-in oil change 1137k. I have lifetime oil changes, so had it done no charge. Next oil change will be when I have 5k and will continue to do every 5k after that. The mechanic told me there was minimal debris (metal shavings), which is typical of all new vehicles in general and even mechanic said its a good idea to when getting a new vehicle to do it between 1000-1500k.

My dealership stopped doing discounted oil changes. So for you to get lifetime free oil changes that is great and hard to find in todays market.

When I bought my truck, it was offered $499 for lifetime. Allowed 5 oil changes per year. That was a no brainer to get and absolutely a good deal.
