I have a 2019 tundra, 5.7, towing package, AB60E transmission, ect. ect. does this trans come with a trans brake because when I get on the brake i feel the trans downshifting, then when I push on the gas it has a loud clunk, not like a firm shift but more like trans in a neutral position then goes into gear, any thoughts??????

Can't really help other than to say that doesn't sound normal.

ETA: The clunk, not the downshift. The downshift sounds normal.

The trucks use engine braking. Would you happen to have an owner's manual, there would be some basic information about it in there.

The clunking certainly isn't normal, when is the last time the drive shaft was greased?

that is the strategy for engine braking...when you are in tow haul mode it is even more pronounced.

Just got done at the toyota dealer, I bought the service package, extended warrintey, and the other crap they were selling, so if anything happens to me the wife could take it to the dealer and say fix it and not have to pay, what a big ball of sh%t that turned out to be, I take it in every 5,000 miles, they only check the fluids every 5,000 miles and rotate tires, oil gets changed every 10,000, so I tell him about the shake in the front end and the clunk in the tranny, he says it will be 190 for each problem, I say it is covered under the warrianty, he says they need to pay the tecnhition 190.00 so I said so it is a non toyota service tech? he says no he is a mechanic that works for toyota, so I said I am paying a mechanic that gets paid by MOSS BROTHERS TOYOTA to look at my transmission that is under warrinty, and he says yes, I will be e-mailing the service manager shortly... I am at a LOSS FOR WORDS with there incompenance

That's complete BS. Extended warranty or not, the Trans problem would still be covered under the regular 5/60 powertrain warranty. Are you still under 60k miles?

    few possible causes:

    • Low trans fluid
    • Trans or engine mounts
    • Driveshaft
    • Shift solenoid

The only noise I hear in my '16 is a very faint kind of a clunk , and happens once in a while when I shift into the 4WD. Other than that, the 6-spd auto trans is supposed to be very reliable.

Having said that, I recall a thread about clunk noise and it being "normal" ... Something about the driveshaft and the trans being out of "sync" if there is sudden changes i.e. sudden deceleration followed by quick acceleration.
Maybe I read that about a different car on a different website but search here first.

Service centers charge a diagnostic fee in case it isn’t covered under warranty, like if you did something to cause the damage. Then if you get it fixed, that fee is included in the repair or not charged at all if it’s covered under warranty. That’s the way it’s been at every Toyota service center I’ve gone to.

My truck will clunk sometimes and I was worried it was coming from the transmission. It’ll do it like if I come up behind someone who is going less than 55 and coast behind them then give it gas to pass. As soon as I give it gas, I get a clunk. I did a drain and fill in my transmission and haven’t noticed it since then.

I’d suggest to check you fluid. There was a post where a guy had a 2019 that wasn’t filled properly because the manual still had the fluid amount with a cooler which the 19s don’t have.

I guess it depends on the A-Hole dealer. Not once on any of my vehicles, no matter the manuf, has ever charged me a diag fee. I have seen more people complain about it now, though. I guess when business is good, its good. Then when its bad they want to nickel and dime their customers. This is another reason why I hate dealers and only deal with them when its a last resort. They can't even do an oil change the right way on my truck.

Regarding transmissions with and without the cooler, what's the total ATF amounts for each or the difference if you recall?

My last experience was when my radiator was leaking at around 10k. The service manager said theyd charge me if it turned out to be road debris or something, but they didn’t find anything so I wasn’t charged any fee and it was all covered under warranty. You’re right that it probably depends on how nice or how much of an a-hole the dealer wants to be.
Looks like it’s 11.7 qt without the cooler and 12.3 qt with the cooler. The post about it was about a year ago. The guy had a 2019 and said it was filled to the specs as if it had a cooler, so 0.6 qt over. He said it ran better once it was filled properly. I can’t remember who it was or what the post was called.

Here is the specs from the 18 (which had a cooler) and 19 manuals. They say the exact same thing. Apparently Toyota forgot to change it when they removed the cooler.

18 ends in 9U and 19 is the one that ends in 17U.

Here is the 21. It just says 11.7 qt. No mention of towing package.
