I can’t keep anything stock. I have to mod it and make it mine. I fell in love with modding over at TacomaWorld with my ‘14 Tacoma and knew I would have to get involved with the Tundra.

I like mods that are functional and that enhance the overall experience of using the vehicle that also don’t break the bank AND are completely removable. I got the SR5 because of budget mainly (looks too! no chrome!) and I knew I would want to add to it over time. Let’s go! :yay:

    Mod Completed List:

    Mod Wish List:

    • Wireless charger addition (in process)
    • Relocate back power window switch (in process)
    • Vented front seats

    Original Post:

Saturday, June 27, 2024 I was able to pick up my first Tundra! I’m the proud owner of a 2024 Tundra SR5 TRD Sport in Lunar Rock! Here she is as soon as I see her at the dealership:

    upload_2024-8-9_21-58-39.jpg

I knew I needed to upgrade from my Tacoma when I kept pulling a muscle trying to load and unload kids in car seat about every day…

I had a 2014 Tacoma I bought brand new and it has served me well this whole time. I really wanted to keep it but when I got it, it was just me and as the years went by it seemed to get smaller and smaller. I finally decided to move up in size and what not better to get than a Tundra!

Pretty much just wanted to get something going on it. I've been meaning to start up the build thread for a while then get distracted lol

Now I have incentive to add something to it since I've got a title and all...

    Chrome delete steering wheel emblem

First thing I wanted to do was delete the last bit of chrome on this premium SR5 package. Main reason I went with this package is because all badges were blacked out already and most other trim color match painted!

I had to do a lot of plastidip on my Taco to delete some chrome. Didn’t want to do that this time.

Here’s the first one I did which was adding an overlay to the chrome steering wheel T symbol.

Got these on Amazon at this link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D46LH49F

If the link is dead or product unavailable from the seller when you see this, just type in Google or Amazon “Tundra 2024 steering wheel emblem overlay”. This should get you to a source that has something. This one only cost me $29.99

    Chrome delete front grill emblem

The final piece of chrome delete was the T emblem in front grill. I don’t know why this one wasn’t done at factory but I still wanted to delete it.

This one was more difficult to do because there wasn’t much out there that was reasonably priced when I was looking.

For example, I was only finding the one that is in the complete black out emblems kit for over $100! I wasn’t about to pay that when I just needed the one piece out of the kit. There were separate ones on eBay and such that we around $50 - still too expensive.

Finally, I found a link to Mercari for $36.12 out the door! I grabbed it. Never ordered from there but heard of the place and it was shipped from California. Here’s the link: https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m74043233248/?sv=0

    Before:

    After:
    upload_2024-8-9_22-13-26.jpg

I was very happy with it. It was made from ABS and was just an overlay shell that went right over the one I had on the truck. There was double sided tape you used to secure it.

However, I did have to trim around the diameter after I had it on the emblem. I popped the emblem out to install it. Quality of the overlay was great but the thickness wouldn’t allow it to just pop back in. I don’t know if this is how the other overlays are for the front but I knew I had to trim somewhere. I decided to trim around the diameter of the overlay I just installed. I got the belt sander out and whittled it down until it was pretty thin around the OD. After I did that, it installed back in place perfectly.

Homelink + Auto Dim Rear View Mirror mod

Next up was changing out the BASIC rear view mirror. I just laughed to myself when I realized my $50k+ truck in 2024 came with a BASIC rear view mirror even with the premium package and all. I had to change that. I didn’t want to dish out the $$$ for any of the digital rear view mirrors that were factory to the Tundra and Bobs Automotive Mirrors didn’t have what I liked for the looks so I decided to follow what I learned from a couple other members on another thread.

mirror kit was $147.15 and had everything needed to do the mod. You will need a way to connect a couple bare wires but I already had these things. So some solder, solder iron, and some electrical tape/shrink wrap at the very least (but if you’re this far in, you’ve been there and already have these tools from other mods most likely, right?? ;)).

Here’s my how-to in that thread:

Seatbelt chime removal + Carista Shenanigans

I grabbed the Carista app and bought this OBDII reader dongle from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073XKQQQW. There are 2 types from this brand, make sure you get the Bluetooth one! It’s slightly more expensive but I don’t think the other one works for our trucks. Someone on the forums here recommended this setup and it was relatively cheap so I tried it.

    OBDII dongle = $31.99
Carista app = free to download but $9.99 for a one month subscription (you need the subscription to make any changes to the truck - you can read some data without the sub. But I recommend you get the 1 month and make the changes during that time)

I used this to disable the seatbelt chime on all seats as well as change the duration of the auto blinker.

I plan on keeping the dongle to read diagnostic data if needed or to make any other changes one day. I’ll have to renew the subscription to do any of that though. The other cool part is I was able to make changes on my wife’s Grand Highlander too! It was compatible!

Are there any mirrors that plug and play into that 5 pin female plug thats already there? I agree, the mirror it came with is not good it's tiny.

EDIT: I’m just remembering, there is a frameless version like the one I installed that has a built in battery so it’s still auto dimming and has Homelink. I just didn’t want to worry about a battery running out at some point which is why I went wired. If that interests you, check out the thread I did my how-to and read up a few posts. A couple people talk about that one and give a part number.

I think your best bet right now, since there’s not much out there, would be to go with one of the OEM options but they are pricey or go with Bobs Automotive Mirrors.

Here the link to one I considered from Bob’s store https://www.bobsmirrors.com/Gentex-Auto-Dim-Mirror-wHomelink®V5-Blue-Compass-Blue-Backlit-Buttons-Plug-Play-For-2022-2023-Toyota-Tundra_p_1741.html

It looks like they have added more mirror options for our truck but they are all more expensive than the one I ordered. I have used them in the past to replace my Tacoma mirror and they were great to work with - product worked perfectly, it came with detailed instructions and their customer service is excellent.

    Realtruck window deflectors/visors

Okay so this weekend I installed some window visors/deflectors. They were super easy to install just make sure the channel is clean then take backing off tape and hold it up until you roll the window back up.

I went with the Realtruck AVS ones. I tried to ordered a couple sets from Amazon that would have been less expensive but each one didn’t fit my truck and I had to return. I think a good bit of vendors have incorrect info for our newer Tundras, especially if it’s a Crewmax (like mine is).

Here are the ones I went with. It was $86.84 total.

I've never had window visors- do they provide a decent amount of shade/ sun blocking effect as you drive?

It's good to block the sun when it's right there in the zone where the visors are. These visors are definitely more translucent than me previous Tacoma ones which were darker (they were Lund brand). I think every mfg is gonna be a bit different.

I mainly got these to be able to crack my window when parked outside to help vent the truck some and not worry about rain getting in. It gets pretty steamy in the summers here in SC even with a front windshield cover. I also went with these specific ones from RealTruck because they were "in-channel" types and the only ones that fit my CrewMax. I tried a couple from Amazon but no luck - even though they were marked to work with my 2024 CrewMax, when holding them up to the window before taking the tape off, they were WAY long. Don't know what the problem was for those and unless they were incorrectly marked.

Also worth mentioning - no additional whistle/wind noise at all with adding these. Only been installed for a couple days now but I've driven backroads and highway and haven't noticed anything different yet which is good!

Thanks- that's good to know. I'm also in a hot climate out in the central CA valley. Will probably get and go without any tinting for a while.

I fixed my driver side mirror from all the whistling at speeds higher than 70mph. Here's the fix for me:

Thanks! Just crossed over 1.6k miles and still love mine. I don’t drive a lot and plan on keeping it as long as possible!

    Remote Wireless Door Buzzer Disable

I just did a 5min fix for the 8 constant beeps that the truck sounds when you close the door and the keys are outside of the truck. It was coming from the remote wireless door lock buzzer. I looked on some factory service pages I had downloaded when I bought the 2 day TIS and then found a thread on it already. Between those 2, it was an easy job of locating the buzzer and unplugging it. I wasn't able to adjust the volume all the way down in Carista to get it to work so I just unplugged it. No alarms or anything yet so we'll see...

Here is my post on it and this thread covers the rest:

@60centenergy how's the vent visors holding up? I'm considering the same.

@kirkb They’re great! I pretty much use them every day. I like to ride with all 4 windows cracked for a little air. I’ve done that in the rain a couple times too. Also like to leave them cracked at work on hot days. Not had an issue with wind noise or water getting in. I would 100% buy them again if I had to.

So, I did some stuff over Thanksgiving. I'll split it up in different posts.

I finally got around to installing a decal, level lift, wheel spacers and predator steps.

    Spidertrax Wheel spacers

I got these from someone here on the forum. They are the Spidertrax WHS034 Blue 1" Spacers that are made for our truck. I followed the instructions for install and they went on great! I'm liking the new stance. I've driven a couple miles on them so far and drive quality is the same as before, which is what I expected.

Passenger side before (left) and after (right):

Keep in mind, I still have the factory Yokohama Geolander tires that came with the truck on here from factory. I plan on changing that up when these wear out. I think it gives it a nice, modest poke without slinging too much up on the side of the truck.

    Cornfed 1" Front Spacer Lift

I purchased this level lift from someone here on the forum as well. It's the Cornfed 1" spacer level lift. The instructions that came from the lift mfg are pretty basic but it's really a straight forward install. I did watch a couple YouTube videos to get familiar with what all I needed to do. This was helpful as I needed a couple sockets and tools I didn't already have. This is the first real wrenching I've done on the truck too, so I wanted to make sure.

Front measurements before lift (all measured from ground up to bottom edge of factory fender flare as seen in the pic below):

    Driver = 35-1/4"
    Passenger = 35-3/8"

    Front end measurements after lift:

    Driver = 36-1/2"
    Passenger = 36-5/8"

I'm super happy with how it turned out! It leveled it out a bit more and still have some rake, which is what I wanted. I have the Sport model so it brought it back up some that the factory natural drop is for that suspension type it came with. I didn't upgrade anything having to do with the suspension - just added the spacers for struts and bumpstop spacers.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a good before side profile shot... but here is a side by side I have. The left pic is the first day I picked it up at the dealership (best pre-lift profile pic I had) and the right pic is right after I installed the spacer level lift. You can definitely get an idea there is a change:

I did take it in for an alignment at the dealership after I did this and the wheel spacers and it's a good thing I did! The alignment was out pretty far so it was corrected.

    OEM Predator steps

I ALSO got these from someone here on the forum (isn't this community great?!). I was able to install these in about 30 min or less. Hardest part was alternating the bolt tightening and getting the steps hung up by myself before tightening.

Here's a pic from driver's side. I'm definitely loving them and glad I went this route. I'm a fan of the OEM ones since they are aluminum and going to be lighter.

Nice truck, new to the group. Was wondering where you got your bump stop extensions from?

Welcome! I got the whole front end kit from Cornfed. Very reasonable price and it comes with front metal strut spacers and the plastic bump stops. Here’s the link to their kit https://cornfedsuspension.com/cornfed2nd3rdtundrafront/
The one I got was the 1” front kit. Part number 2G3GTun-1TO
