As requested, I'm finally making a thread on my turbo project, after about 2 months of daily driving it. Here's a probably outdated build spreadsheet that I made and forgot about- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pieizzCTOiLv7zTPgzXsvQIqBVxZMSnbnOKtly3Ofyg/edit?usp=sharing
To start, here the gauge/boost controller i'm running
    v8GN0FZDY2p21j4oRiiLGTiqEdan_SOTG6GMaDoF_c481099f16eda952d4c1feb94506f66ef403d6ab.jpg
It shows boost, vacuum and afr, and has both boost and afr safety cuts, which is why I chose it.
Here's the turbo before everything else. You have to move some power steering lines so they don't burn on the exhaust. I also wrapped everything in the bay to keep heat down.
    INldNuZ62hmTVQ4NLI4rGKSubPnIIPx0zy2Ffuq6_c8221fbdfca3c3a3c69d30023b85ba150fa80174.jpg
Some photos for general intercooler pipe routing

And the pipes under the truck

Now for oil lines. I pulled oil pressure from a spot off of the oil filter housing, that you can get fittings from hardware stores to use.
    MP4vgAVm9Hv9jOxQgaEx9Blek6EEpbS1VZAZOanT_8c072509499883f9f4352dfb5b99160f60bfc1ee.jpg
For the return I tapped the upper pan in the front and mounted a 3/8" npt fitting onto it. I chose the front because I was confident I wouldn't hit the pickup, and because I couldn't find space on the passenger side.
    8YPhuAV_Qfjcd9EJs9OalAcBdtc8j91_ckOSvM8X_70b9c34bf3a6d01791301c3884d9bce13b4c25ba.jpg
With the return line(before i put hose clamps on):

After oil lines, intercooler piping are routed:

And the intercooler from the front:

Here's the exhaust, and flex pipe that runs up to the turbo, had a local shop weld pipe in for a couple hundred $
    _IGipaIEns1byKGuYtc4CkFp2V9GLNcF4UduLi0Y_9eef962d87063a0192a6adacb32b71f89b2d019c.jpg
Also keep in mind you have to bend the transmission dipstick tube so it doesn't melt on the downpipe.
Here is the current state of the build:
    GeGw0gg4mLERABRyvFeDLqRGGPg-JujCrArpoeS7_3627249c1baeec77ef997ef07a433c2f1de1b593.jpg
I haven't had time(with montana snow) to put the catch can or bigger trans oil cooler in yet, but those are next.
I know I'm probably forgetting a ton, so I'll answer any questions I can.

With the current exhaust leaks, about 3400rpm in 1st gear. With new remflex gaskets i think i can get it closer to 3k. Keep in mind I'm only running 6psi atm. If i ever blow this turbo up I plan on going down to ~60mm. This kit just came with a 70 .

Yea, i want the kit. But a smaller turbo seems like a better bet. But you done it! Thats a win and a half on its own. Sent a request to see your link.

egt’s? Iat’s (in the manifold)? Timing tweaks?

I haven't messed with timing, the ecu I'm running doesn't control it(MAP-ECU), it only does fueling. I run 91 octane gas for reference, with no knock. Iats at the MAF when logging during pulls never went above 70 degrees(F), but in high elevation cold MT weather. I made the link so anyone can view. To be perfectly honest, I have not looked at egts.

I would also like to note that VF tuners recently cracked our ECUs, so i plan on switching to that soon!

Is it wrong to say I'm more impressed your frame is rust free. Do they not salt the roads in Montana?

I got super lucky with this truck. Used to be owned and garaged by my grandma, with only 130k miles, and for $4k. They do not salt the roads here, and I could not be happier about it!

Great work. Particularly impressive that it's functional as a daily driver, not just a drag strip toy. Can you describe the drivability? How does the power come on, hard and heavy, or gradual and linear?

Isn't 6psi in the neighborhood of what the TRD superchargers would run for this engine?

Im also curious if tapping the oil feed from the filter dropped oil pressure through the engine.

how many miles does your setup have on it?

It's pretty weird to be honest, as I've never driven a turbo car before. Since it's such low boost, when it starts pushing air its pretty linear, although once I made power coming out of the 1-2 shift and blew the tires out on snow. It isn't strong enough to throw you back, but it feels much better than stock.
Pretty sure it is, that's why I set the boost controller to cut there to keep the engine safe.
I have noticed a slight drop, but nothing dangerous. I also switched to 10w-30 before it got cold for a bit more weight with as much heat as it adds to the oil when I'm doing serious pulls. I might experiment with 10w-40 in the future.
So far about 3k, with a few issues, but none of them scary. It blows off intercooler couplers every now and then, even the one in my pfp shows it, and at first I didn't have the oil lines completely tight, so it dripped. ATM it runs out of fueling if I'm at about 5k rpms in 2nd gear with full boost, but I'm pretty sure that dirtydeeds has some 330cc injectors that can solve that with some tuning. Oh and when I first finished putting the turbo in I somehow managed to put the MAF in backwards and wondered why it wouldn't run. Guess that's what wrenching for 10 hours completely fueled by redbulls does to you when jet-lagged lol.

I’m also super excited, but they haven’t listed our ecu yet so I’m waiting. As for the kit, yeah I bought the one off eBay. If you’re gonna buy it ask them if they’ll cut a bit off the price, they cut $100 off when i asked.

I teed those together and then back into the intake tube feeding into the turbo, after the filter. I used a k&n pipe that already had fittings on it to put the hoses on. I can snap a pic if you want

It it about $900 right now I believe. I paid $774 for it after asking the seller for a discount. For fitment I only had to bend the transmission dipstick out of the way, and move some power steering lines so they wouldn't press against the turbo flange. Everything else on the hotside was fine, but fitting the lower vband on the turbo feed pipe takes a very long time with a 1/4 inch ratchet through the wheel well.

I think you're looking at the one that comes with headers. The one I bought that doesn't come with them is $895. Here's the link- https://www.ebay.com/itm/183608896679

What fuel enrichment setup do you have? Without any fuel enrichment setup, it's not safe to boost. At a minimal, an FMU should be installed.

I’m running a MAP-ECU piggyback to add fuel, patched into the stock harness. It also has tps based enrichment but I haven’t needed that as just modifying the fuel tables has been enough.

I had heard if the boost was 5psi or less the stock ECU was fine. Is that not correct? (not that I'll ever get around to adding a turbo, but I love the idea!)

Sometime I’ll test it, I’ll just tighten up the boost safeties so that it doesn’t go too lean. I’ll also start at 3psi and work up to my normal 6 and see when the safety cuts start happening.

That's nice. Don't be tempted to go over 5-6 psi with stock fuel injectors. And don't go over 8-9 psi without lower the compression. Lol. The 2UZ has weak rods with high compression. I think that many guys tried boosting more had broken their motors. Your turbo system is better than the TRD supercharger, because you can have an intercooler that lowers the intake temperature and is safer for the motor. I like it.

Don’t worry, I’m aware of the weak rods and I have already maxed out the stock fueling, but I’m gonna get some 330cc injectors and a walbro 255 from dirtydeeds to help with fuel. In the future I plan on getting some forged h beam rods and 8.5:1 forged pistons, and arp studs and shoot for 600-700whp. That won’t be for at least a year though

Skip the walbro. Get a denso mk4 supra TT pump.

Quiet, reliable (most important) and more flow than a 255.
