So I have narrowed down my camper brand to ARE due to many factors so that decision has been made. Next question for those who have them…all equally optioned is there a reason to go with one model over the other? Looking at the Z, CX Classic and V series. I don’t mind spending for the higher level but if not really worth it that extra savings can go to something else for my truck.

The dealer I went with had seen some issues with the Z model …leaking and hardware problems. The Z has a nice look and I prefer that style glass but I didn’t want issues with what these things cost. I decided to go with the CX and been happy with my setup. Yes there are some fit and finish things I wish were better but overall it does its job. I am going to take off end of summer and redo the gasket with a higher quality rubber seal to hopefully eliminate some minor leaking along the sides.

20230529_152013.jpg Got the Z2 the beginning of May(2023), I ordered it in April 2022.

3 days after installation, one of the cables to the driver side latch (rear facing main window) broke and then I could not access the back of the truck. Next day the dealer was able to replace the cable and I headed out for a 5k mile road trip to New Mexico.

3rd day into the trip (10 days since the install), the plastic handles on the side windows both broke off while I was trying to close the windows. I was able to get the windows closed and secured. Called the dealer and he has new handles being sent to my home. Hope to see them in the next week or two.

Over all I do like the Z2 Canopy, but I have to wonder what's next. No leaking issues at this point.

The dealer says all the right things, but is not very responsive. I have tried calling (and Emailing) ARE, but they don't respond.

Kind of frustrating since they have the reputation for being one of the better canopy companies.

I didn't have any more luck in terms of responsiveness from the manufacturer when I had an issue with my Leer. Ended up just having to drive to my dealer to get it sorted (they were useless on the phone).

No leaks but I do have some paint rubbing problems by the tailgate.

If I were to do it again I would get a GFC canopy or similar, but if it was ARE I would go MX with windoors. I miss the side entry functionality.

I have a CX with windoors, carpeting, lighting, drop down front window with slider, roof rack, basically the works. I bought it used and have had no issues with quality and love the functionality. Can’t comment on the other models but figured I’d give my input on the CX.

All depends on what windows you want.
    • if you want side sliders, the CX is good.
    • If you want side windoors, the CX or V are good
    • if you want the cleanest look, the Z looks nice.
I had a CX on my last truck. Great topper. I went to buy another for this truck and with the options, the CX Evolve was a few hundred less and has the nicer rear window, so i went with that.

The only thing i wish is that i had the flat sides like the V. The CXs have inset for the windows...and the windoors do not fit that same shape. Minor annoyance.
