Well we're having the hottest weekend of the year and wouldn't you know it my AC is blowing hot!!! I noticed since I bought it last October that the AC wasn't blowing hard nor was it really cold. It was working yesterday, but it didn't seem cold enough. I guess it's out of freon...small leak???

    Any suggestions?

First thing is to check your AC coolant pressure. Sometimes you can have a really small leak to the point where you have to top off your coolant every year or two. Its not hard to do if that is the issue.

When you change the temperature from max cold to max hot settings can you hear a vent opening or closing behind the dash?

The AC is activated one of two ways: 1) When the AC button is pressed 2) When the climate control is set to Defrost or the Defrost/Mix.

First test: Put the climate control on vent (not defrost or mix). Now press the AC button, what happens? Does the compressor cycle on? Does the idle speed go up?

I bought a recharge can and my Dad added about 1/2 the can. I’m not sure how he knew what was too much or too little. He said the gauges they sell are crap! Anyway, it’s cooling now. I had to do something it’s hot as Hades in southeastern NC this weekend! I’m going to eventually have my mechanic look at it to find the leak. In the mean time...I’m chillin!!!!

The problem is if there is not enough pressure in the AC system it will not turn on even if everything else is working.

Agreed. That's the point of the test.

Well I checked the temperature of the air coming out yesterday afternoon and the temperature of the blowing air while driving was about 57 degrees @ an outside temp of about 92ish. Later that evening I went to drive it and the air was HOT!!! No AC and the temps here are approaching 100! Well at least I have another car!!! I’ll take it to my mechanic this week...maybe.

    Update....

Just checked it today...5/27... the compressor is not coming cycling ON!

Sounds like you have a decent leak.

The dealer or mechanic should do a dye test. Basicaly charge the system with it and then locate any signs of the dye leaking.

Ac is a pain in the butt to mess with unfortunately.

Last ditch effort...put in some r134 with leak stop yesterday. I didn't drive it yesterday or today, but I'll check it when I get off work. The leak may be too large or there may be another problem... we'll see.

Well it’s still blowing cold around 57-58F. It seems to me that it should be colder, but I don’t think it ever was colder than that since I bought it last October. Also, the HIGH fan setting doesn’t really seem to be blowing that hard...what’s up with that???

For the time being I guess it’ll do. I just hate when sh$t don’t work as it’s suppose to...drives me nuts! OCD I guess

Might have clogged coils keeping the air from blowing strong. Kinda like a clogged filter. I just put up pics of what I did a few months back.
