AC Control knob, silver ring reattachment on Limited.

Does anyone know the trick to installing the silver AC control knob rings?
The little surround rings that attach to the AC control knobs that allow you to adjust temperature or fan speed.

Every now and then one pops off and it's tricky to get it back on right. (Radar detector bails on windshield or wife bumps it.)

I found a video of it once before but can't find it now and don't want to force the ring back on and break it or the control knob.

Any tips for reattachment?
