So as we all know right now the automotive industry has taken a hard hit on production, supplies and etc...
Anyways i wanted to get a brand new 2021 Tundra while i can before the 2022 models hit the dealer lots but at the same time do not want to pay near MSRP or higher for a unit. Anyone have any theories or answers on what Toyota will do for the 2021 year model productions?

I mean ideally that’s the general theory of new year models but we’re in a pandemic during this time.. lol

They not gonna sell a lot of tundra this year anyway, when the new one comes out, they have to drop the price on the old model
Everyone is at home, why they need a new truck sitting at home for…
And why u want another tundra when u have a 19 tundra???

About the only way you’re getting a 2021….

Let me drop some insight on this topic. Like Sean said, in this market a lot of people are going to be really upside down on their vehicles in a couple years.

In a few months the new Tundra will finally debut, it will be a mic drop, and along with that 2021 and older values will as well.

I would wait man…seriously. If you don’t like the new Tundra, many will. I would bet finding a 2021 with under 4000 miles will be easy.

Unless you for some reason truly desire a brand new Lunar Rock, then I agree with what was said above. Dealers are trying to get every penny they can, and waiting will probably be your best option.

Unless you are hard up for reliable transportation there is no way in hell you or anyone else should be paying the current absurd prices for a car or truck.

Wait a year. As others have said there are going to be a lot of people upside down in their vehicles. The new 2022 is coming as well. Between trade ins on the new hotness, and people trying like hell to get out of the truck they paid way way too much for, you’ll find your 2021.

best I can find around me is MSRP. A few are selling a couple grand above. I plan on leasing one through my business where it can at least take advantage of the depreciation. My only plus on the tundra is that they don't usually sell for 10-12k off sticker like a f-150 does, so I don't think I will be upside down. Mine is being made in two weeks and I expect to have it by the beginning of August.

As far as the 2022 killing 2021 model values, I think thats a joke. Look at 2nd gen tacomas vs 3rd gen. They didn't just loose all their value and a lot of people hate the new ones enough where they won't own them. I think this is going to be the case for the 2022 Tundra. Right now the Tundra is unique in it's oldness and style, that appeals to people. The 2022 is just a gross thing that will not stand out in anyway vs a chevy or ford.

Also, where are all these Tundras for sale? Around me there aren't a ton and most for sale are in transit and not even on the dealer lot.

I plan on keeping my 20 and if the 22 is all that great, will grab it if I can get a deal- use it as a Beater work truck.

there aren’t any real deals right now… 8-10k off msrp like pre pandemic ? Not likely, most now are going right near msrp and it won’t change, my prediction is things will continue to spin out of control as the printing of $ continues and supply and demand problems mount. Throw some offers out there now on what you can find, location of dealer seems to matter also.

All I can say is good luck! Some dealers here are $3-5k above MSRP. Used Tundras are even worse. It’s insanity.

Bottom line - if your not willing to pay sticker on a 2021- don’t plan on buying a “new” Tundra for the foreseeable future.

2021 is unlikely to see any “clearance “ sales at year end - demand/supply.

2022 will likely see a higher price tag, say 5% (about 2500 higher) - so even if they “discount” 2500 - your paying the same price. On top of that - initial demand will likely be strong - even if I think they are ugly, I’m just 1 potential customer.

It’s kinda like calling up a realtor and saying - I know what a similar new home sold for in 2008 and I want that price today…markets change and you will be shut out of the market as there are literally thousands of buyers out there out bidding you.

Paying above sticker will get you to front of the line - but you will be overpaying. Paying sticker will get you a truck - you might have to wait a bit, or be less picky on color/packages if you want it today - but you will be riding home from a dealer somewhere in a new truck. Expecting discounts of 500-1k, doable - but you REALLY gotta be flexible…u less you want a 2wd. Anything more - your gonna be laughed out of the dealership with your offers.

Keep in mind - depending on the model, Tundras weren’t heavily discounted BEFORE the market surge and the resale was pretty high. Expecting dealers to “fight” for your business when they have customers willing to pay sticker and no inventory to sell once what they have on the lot sells is probably an unrealistic fantasy.

As to supply - it actually is getting better.

Between the “free” cash drying up, buyers now focused on normal summertime activities (vacations/outdoor activities) and less supply constraints- it’s easing up.

But just like hand sanitizer, TP, lumber and everything else - understand supply doesn’t always mean “discount” - until supply reaches a “vast” overage (think cheap hand sanitizers or paper mask) - the price will remain - even if there is product on the shelf.

Trucks are like TP - there is ALWAYS going to be a demand as someone always needs them. Now once that supply outweighs the demand by say 5% - you will see discounts - but not until. Given there were more buyers than sellers as recently as April - it’s unlike we reach that point of over saturation anytime in 2021 or early 2022. There are only so many trucks that can be built a day and with 5 companies controlling the market - they control the supply and thus can create demand by artificial means at least temporarily (which they managed to do in my opinion) - the supply chain issues were real - but manufacturers hyped it into the perfect storm. It’s calming now - but the thought is now in the average buyers mindset and likely won’t go away anytime soon.

It’s been done by petroleum makers for decades - truck makers just took a page from their playbook.

I see $500 off MSRP around my area versus none from a month ago, inventory is about the same but demand have slowed I assume. Waiting is your best bet but just depends on how badly you want it.

A salesman friend I know just sold a Pro for over 61 thousand!!! I have a feeling the 22s are going to be marked up a good bit and sales from there will dictate the price. A dealer just offered me 50 thousand for my truck and I didn’t pay anything close to that new. I would like to take them up on the offer but they do not have anything new (21) on the lot. Was told they have stopped making the 21s because of all the ones waiting for chips right now and they are preparing for the 22s.

This is exactly the conversation I am looking for. The best deal I can find is a Tundra TRD Pro with 25k miles for $51k. A local dealer has a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro for $53k + $7k market adjustment fee. So the question is do I want a new 2021 Truck for $9k over what I can buy a used Truck with 25k miles on it.

The market is insane right now, and it makes sense to wait if you can but I really want/need a truck now. I just moved across the country and sold my F150 when I left (because I could only tow one vehicle) and planed to get a newer truck when I settled in my new home. I never in my life have bought a new car/truck because they immediately depreciate but we are in unprecedented times.

You’ll overpay on any vehicle right now, especially trucks. Whenever production stabilizes and can meet demand, and things get back to normal, you’ll be upside down.

I don’t think that 2007-2021 Tundras are going to plummet in value when the 2022 comes out. That has never happened to an older gen Toyota truck when the new gen comes out. They all still retain their value.

…but not if you overpay in an insane, inflated market like we’re in now.

There are still deals out there that aren't freakin outrageous. You just have to root them out. The prices will be full MSRP, which is still not bad compared to other makes of truck. The prices will be at MSRP for awhile when it comes to Tundras. The new model will be popular and the chip shortage isn't doing the price of vehicles any favors.

If you truly want a 21 before this model is gone and plan to drive it for a long time then I would just do it. I just wouldn't pay over MSRP for it. I got my 21 a few months ago for that reason and was still able to get about $2k off MSRP. Just don't be afraid to walk away or rush into something.

Little over 1700 Tundras for sale in the lower 48. Not a good time to buy and and you are kidding yourself if you think purchasing a 2021 models would be a good investment. End of 2022 into 2023 we will see a big decrease in 5.7 values.

This. Wife's 2012 Highlander has Blizzard Pearl White paint, and it turns out that paint is recalled for several years, for multiple Toyota models...

...EXCEPT the Highlander. Has been fixed, but not for her model/year. It's so bad that the paint is down to bare metal in spots, and repainting will cost like $7K (!!!) so we're instead trading it in on a newer one. While there's not any huge deals to be had, if I have to pay near MSRP, it'll be for a Toyota. We did get them to come off $1K on MSRP, and raise trade-in price $1K, so I'm good with that.

    Unfortunately it's a seller's market place today.
Or it would be if they actually had supply...you can't sell something you don't have...
    It's crazy out there.

I have a buddy son that totaled his 2007 Tacoma 4x4 CC…etc. the truck had 150k miles on it and received 26,000.00 from his insurance company due to the availability/pricing.

My wife tried to be a lumberjack with her 2015 Tacoma Sport 4x4 Longbed CC in 2018. The truck was in good shape with 45000 miles. We got 26500.00 for it.

Can’t tell me that the inflated pricing right now isn’t going to come crashing down….

I just stopped looking for a 2021 last week. I live in nj and looked in a 200 mile radius. Found a bunch of trucks most of them scheduled to be delivered next month. The best I could find was MSRP. I was looking at platinum, and pros. Haggling was not entertained at all for the price of the truck but trade in value was where you can try and get a few dollars more.

If I was in your shoes, I’d wait and try to get a 2022. obviously it’s going to be light years ahead in tech from 2021 in every way.

Worst case scoop up a CPO 2019-2021 late this year if you hate the new power train.

Edit to say never mind. I didn’t see you don’t have the 2019 anymore

I agree with you on this. Which has me wondering if I should unload my truck at the insane values now, sit on the money and buy the new gen when it hits. It makes sense but at the same time I don’t really want that first model year.
My truck can fetch 40 grand right now. In two years I might be lucky to get 25.
