Hate to say it, but I see some new harnesses in your future. Good luck.

Toyota knows it’s an issue as do other manufacturers. Why do t they use a shielded cable/cover to prevent this crap?

It's a world wide initiative. Just ask older Mercedes vehicle owners and how their wiring disintegrates under the hood. Probably worst than rodents rummaging under the hood. Atleast their is some colors left.

This type of damage by animals is covered under your comprehensive insurance coverage. Depending on your deductible, I'd consider letting them cover the repair.

Hard to know exactly how much was chewed. I'll go with an arm and a leg plus an insurance premium increase.

I think I heard the main harness on the P/S was around $3500.00 so I'll bid $5000.01.

Ah dang it, gang. You are making me excited! I called insurance man and he does say it is covered. He also said it shouldn't increase premiums because it's considered a 'no fault'. If it were like a grand or two, I would rather pay out of pocket, but if it gets higher than that, might as well ask insurance to help out. ($500 deductible I have)

When I saw only one side(driver) chewed up, I figured a handful of wires and a soldering gun, but when saw the other side being worked up as well..:angrygirl:
why would any self respectable rodent do such a mischief?

FWIW, I have been keeping pine sol soaked rags, Snuggle dryer sheets, and bars of pink Dove soap tucked in a few places around the engine bay that don't affect drivability. No problems so far, and no it doesn't transfer to the cab HVAC.

I set cotton pads soaked in this stuff in my second vehicle which will go to work tomorrow(Sunday vehicle).

Anyone used it? My dog appears to love it!

I found online "honda rodent tape". Anyone ever heard of it or tried it? Its supposedly chili peppers hot. But what if rats love spicy food?

That tape has been mentioned here before, but I don't think anyone here has used it and given a review of the results. Sure it can't hurt though. Have you looked into peppermint oil mixed with water in a spray bottle?, that's what I use, and so far so good.

I can tel you for a fact that they made nesting material out of the cloth bags i had filled with moth balls and ghost peppers. Of the 10 bags I had hanging in my engine compartment 8 of them wound up i their nest.

The same goes for Bounce dryer sheets, placed them in a car I had in semi-storage and they disappeared only to be found under the rear seat as nesting material. :(

Well that's disappointing to hear. It looks like not much hope in this world for drivers and their beloved vehicles.

I'm probably going to pick up that tape when I get my pickup back(whenever that happens). Now that we're mentioning the tape. Much of the wiring was exposed completely in my truck. Many areas were just electrical-taped together without any additional protection.

At the moment, my only protection is that tomcat spray soaked battalion of cotton pads, strategically placed around the engine compartment. I also sprayed certain parts to give an additional layer of scenetronic defense. Is counteroffensive coming tonight?

Good Sir, please enlighten me on more appropriate response to rodent aggression. Alibaba.com doesn't carry little tactical nukes to wipe out rodents.

A few underfed cats are your friends.

I also have great success with the old fashioned snap traps with peanut butter around the area. When I bought this place there was a SERIOUS rodent problem. I caught more than 2 dozen mice in the garage with snap traps IN ONE DAY.

Well, this is one thing that I am concerned about. It's providing buffet for the rodents near a vehicle. Not all of them will eat every snack and gossip spreads fast. Last thing I need is their friends coming over.

If I miss a dose, they'll likely want to stick around for the next feeding session.

Also, please dont be mad, gang. I dont like cats. I have a puffy puppet who doesn't get along with them and will either want to chase them off when going outside to pee, or they murder him.

There is one neighbor's cat coming over every once in a while and she leaves yellow markings on my siding. Near and on the entrance door too.

Whatever you do, don't use poison. Very bad for things that eat the rodents.

Gang, I don't want to resort to that. There's a pair of hawks regularly(very) patrolling our territory. The last thing I want is for them to get sick from poisoned mouse.

I believe balance will be struck, like this: I repel mice from my car and truck(when back home after repairs) using repellents, hence mice will stay in the woods and our hawks will pick them out one by one like military drones.

@Danny3737 , how glue traps work? Do they smell good and mouse goes on it, getting glued to it? Do I attach it...uh, where? Thanks gang!

But what if it was a squirrel that did the damage? I dont see hawks snack on squirrels!

I've seen that video, might as well use it as nasal spray for the mouse. The box is very small and he has two apparatuses there! Invalid test. I'd like to see it in a box size 6'x6'.
