Maybe a stupid question of mine but wondering if anybody has had trouble adding more apps to your Home Screen for carplay? Youtube and all others will not show up as more apps to add.

YouTube and other video playing apps won’t show up in CarPlay for safety reasons.

You may need to look at how to screen mirror to do something like that.

You’re trying to use the CarLink Kit to use wireless CarPlay?

I haven’t tried that myself as I have an aftermarket radio with wireless CarPlay included and used the wired CarPlay in my car.

I do have carplay already but Apple doesn’t those apps to play. I read up that the dongles will override that but having trouble with it still

You’re probably talking about the screen mirror and you probably need an app for that as well.

What specific dongle do you have?

The CarLinkIt dongle only gives you WIRELESS CarPlay, and doesn’t add in extra app compatibility. Apple only allows navigation, music, messaging and other audio-only apps on CarPlay. Like @BoysandHisToys said, you’d need a different adapter that would enable screen mirroring, but a lot of those are pretty hacky and don’t work the best.

iOS apps must be built to be Car Play compatible. In other words, just because you have an app on your iPhone, that does not necessarily mean it's available as a Car Play app.

Likewise, apps may have different features and functionality when they are available in Car Play. For example, the Apple News app does not let one read the news on CarPlay and so instead, it offers the news as audio. That is for ease of use, safety, and so on. Likewise, Google Maps, which does offer a Car Play version, may still guide you to a restaurant however it doesn't maybe allow you to write a review of it.

    Hope that helps.

Hey, not a stupid question at all! CarPlay can be a bit finicky sometimes. It's possible that certain apps, like YouTube, might not be compatible with CarPlay or have restrictions that prevent them from being added to your Home Screen.

You can try checking the App Store to see if there's an updated version of the app that supports CarPlay. Also, make sure your phone's software is up to date, as that can sometimes affect compatibility.

By the way, if you're interested in apps that can earn you some extra cash, you might want to explore options for apps that pay you real money. They can be a fun way to make a few bucks on the side while you're on the road!
