I remember reading somewhere that it s not good to isolate a car audio battery. I don t remember why though. Has anyone heard this, or have an opinion on this? I m wanting to get a Northstar SMSAGM220 battery for my audio system, but it really seems like I should isolate it, from my odyssey extreme.

Most use a battery isolater when using two batteries so they wont level off and drain each other. Do you have two batteries?

No. Only one atm. I will probably get an isolator. I don t want to have to get a new starter battery too. I will just get the northstar, and isolate it. I found the thread about isolators I mentioned in previous post. It said an isolator wasn t necessary. I thought it said something else. The thread is here

I know a lot of military vehicles with single battery isolators and companies that have fleet trucks that use them also with no issues.

I have the genesis dual battery kit. It has an isolator that separates them when under 12.7 and connects them again when above 13.2 so the accessory battery doesn’t drain the main battery. That way you’ll be able to start even if the other battery gets drained. Probably not absolutely needed, but good to have.

I m familiar with the genesis system. I was considering it. I even emailed them and discussed my needs. The main issue with the Genesis is the 200 amp limit for their isolator. Beside that; it s not really designed for audio systems.

Yeah I only have my lights, compressor, and an aux plug in the bed that I put my fridge on hooked up to the 2nd battery. It’s not likely I’d be running all that at the same time. I got it cause I live in a cold climate and my factory battery lasted less than a year. Wanted to make sure I could start the truck all the time. The genesis kit can jump start itself.
