    33x10.50R17 NOT 33x11.50

    Need some advice:

There is a guy selling a set of first gen 5100's with springs attached to them already. He said a friend gave them to him to put on his Tacoma and they obviously didn't fit. He says they only have 15K on them but he isn't sure if the springs are OEM or aftermarket. I can probably scoop them both up for $100 +/-. Part numbers on the shocks match up to a first gen.

He says they are currently on #2

My idea would be to pick them up, move up to a 33x10.50R17 tire/wheel. I called 1st Gen offroad and they said that I could move the clip to #3 and even #4 or #5 if I wanted. He said Bilstein says you can't run them on #4 and #5 because it maxes out the spring and it may cause alignment issues along with rough ride but he does it all the time with no issues. I told him my other truck is a 3/4 ton Duramax with 22" wheels so a rough ride wasn't foreign to me lol. He also said I may need to run spacers or a wheel with a negative offset to clear the control arms but 10.50 may squeak by.

Does anyone have a similar setup or advice on this? I was looking at a complete suspension overhaul but it was going to set me back $1000+/-. I figured if I can run this for a bit for $100 plus the cost of wheels/tires, I would make it work.

You can run your suspension on what ever setting you want, Bilstein provides recommendation for best results. As you move the clip higher more pre load is put on the spring and suspension will get stiffer along with raising your height. Plenty of people run these and on every setting available. Depends on your plans and needs.

33x11.5 is not available in a 17". You can get pretty close with 285/70r17. The width here is the biggest factor and will typically require running lower offset wheels or wheel spacers to clear the rubbing on the upper control arms or spindle itself.

Gotcha, sorry. Still 33x10.5 is not offered in a 17". Closes size is 255/80r17.

I actually just ordered a set that will be here tomorrow! I think its a great size choice, but many don't like the skinnier look. I have build thread going, follow it. Tires should be getting put on tomorrow.

I plan on running them on my stock wheels with no spacers.

I've been running the BFG KO2 in 34/10.5/17. They're listed as being 33.5" tall. Should work for you... :notsure:IMG_1867.jpg

Ask if there are any paint marks on them. Toyota puts a swipe of paint in two colors on their coils to mark what kind they are, from there you can google to see what model they're from. Worst case you could always swap your coils on. $100 is a nice deal if they're really low miles.

Get them and aim for a wheel right at 4" backspacing and you won't have a problem hitting your control arms.

Ah yes, there are lots of tires in 33x10.5R17 lol. Back in the day, I used to run 33x9.50’s on my jeep and I loved them. Pizza cutters do extremely well off road and on road.

Let us how they fit! I’m currently rubbing with 265/75/16’s but I think it’s due to the offset.

Nice! Are you lifted at all or what wheels are you running?

That’s good to know! They appear to have a swipe of white paint on the side. Does that indicate OEM?

Toyota had a lot of color versions, I dont think there is a full listing. Here are some known access cab combos but this doesn't cover all.

    Stock 4X2 coils
    - drivers: yellow-white
    - passengers: blue-white

    Stock 4X4 coils
    - drivers: yellow-green
    - passengers: blue-green

    TRD 4X4 coils
    - drivers: yellow-yellow
    - passengers: blue-yellow

    TRD 4X2 coils
    -drivers: red-yellow
    -passengers: purple-yellow

    Who makes a 33x10.5r17??

I promise I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I've just never seen it for a 17" wheel, if you know of a brand making that size please share.

Update: I stand corrected, I found some but only from a few smaller Chinese brands. Oh and Super Swampers!

The tires I’m specifically looking at the Kenda RT’s. They have excellent reviews on the LML FB group and first gen tundras FB group.

Those Kendas look good and I like their size options. I’m guessing these pizza cutter sizes are being influenced by dually owners. It sure is benefiting us Toyota guys.

Got the 255/80r17 Falkens on yesterday. Here’s how they compares to the 265/70r 17 Michelin’s (both unmounted). More photos in my build thread.

Truck is completely stock. Only rubbing is on full lock left turns on frame. Very minor, probably will go away after new suspension parts.

I almost went with the AT3’s but found a good deal on some duratracs. I was really set on them too because the reviews.

I’m normally not a fan of Chy-na tires but they look good and the size is exactly what I want.

Discount tire Direct had the 4 Falken's shipped to my house for under $800. I still managed to sell my used tires for $200. So I have less than $600 into my new tires. :bananadance:

That's the way to do it! Again, the only reason I went with the duratracs is because of the deal I got which was similar to yours. A guy on craigslist was selling some like new (less than 800 miles) 265/75/16 duratracs mounted on OEM third gen 4runner wheels. He was asking $800 obo so I offered him $700. He aggressively told me I was low balling him. A week later he contacted me asking if I was till interested. I told him I was but I only had $600 now; after some talk, he finally said come get them lol. I sold the OEM 4runner wheels for $200, the 265/75/16 tires that were on my truck for $300 and $50 for the OEM tundra wheels to the guy at work.
