I just saw another thread called "Fuel filler neck seal question" where people
are questioning the gap (either at top or bottom) and whether its normal.

I never noticed a gap until I just got my fuel pump replaced under warranty (i.e. recall). I just
looked and it's a gap at the top, not bottom. I don't think it was there before
the pump replacement....but I'm not totally sure.. I'm assuming a replacement
pump replacement could cause this gap, if it jiggles all these other parts.

But the real (possible) problem is: After I drove away from the dealership, I went to a gas
station and filled the near-empty tank. For the first time in the years i've
owned the trunk, the gas-station-pump (nozzle) kept clicking off around every 15 seconds...until I
finally got the tank full. Happened at least 10 times, despite trying different positions. I've
never had a gas-station-pump-nozzle click off prematurely (even once) before this.

    So, this could've just been a bad gas-station-pump, since i didn't try any others. (??) I'll
try some others next week when I'm down to about half-tank. But how likely is this related
to the fuel pump replacement? (and to that "gap")....

Sounds like the gap indicates incorrect installation.

Lazy technician didn't check his work. I had the same thing happen with the filler tube gasket gap. My OCD couldn't cope with that. Get under the truck and adjust the fuel filler neck position until centered in the gasket. This will involve a 10mm socket if my memory serves and rotating the neck until it's in the correct position. Or take it back and make the Tech do it.
The filling problem could be related to the roll over/anti syphoning valve in the fuel filler tube.

When I had my fuel pump replaced under recall last year Im driving home and I pop a check engine light. Put my scanner on and its a large evap leak???? I figured hooefully just a brain fart after having the pump replaced. So i clear the code a go to a local gas station about 3 miles away without any codes. Go to fill up and gas is pouring out under the truck splashing me and the underside of the truck. The lazy ass mechanic obviously didnt check his work. He never re connected the fuel hose to the filler neck. I called and after a few f bombs and other pleasantries they said they will send a mechanic to my house and he will drive my truck back to the dealer, fix the issue and drive it back to my house. I told this idiot do you really think im gonna let some flunkie mechanic drive around in my truck and he cant even swap out a fuel pump right.
