I’d like to add an aftermarket dash cam to my 2022 Hybrid CrewMax limited. $560 (Canadian) seems to steep for the Toyota integrated dash cam. On my 2011 Tundra my $80 Amazon dash cam worked fine. Tucked the wire under the windshield moulding and ran it under the dash where I could connect to the DC lighter. This truck has its 12 V power outlet on the top of the dash (behind the multimedia display in a recessed holder). Intuitively, it seems like a great place to plug in a dash cam, but if you want the dash cam mounted up top behind the rear view mirror you end up with a wire hanging down. Not cool. What have others interested in a after market dash cam done? I don’t have the digital rear view mirror. Is there any power supply I can tap into near or at the rear view mirror? I could still run the wire under the windshield moulding to under the dash if there was a convenient (and easy) way to get to DC power. Alternatively, I could find a camera that is battery powered…I could tolerate plugging it in to recharge every couple weeks. Any advice appreciated!

    I have the Redtiger 7N with a
hardwire kit. Comes with front and back cams. I liked it enough to put one in both my Forester and Corvette. They may still give discounts or free stuff if you ask.

I have a BlackVue 900x 2ch in my tundra and Jetta. Love both of them. Very easy to install and use. I have been hit several times in my Jetta and the ability to download to my phone on the spot is huge when it comes to proving you were in the right with troopers. Also I run a remote fuse panel that allows me to shut everything off if there was a draw issue. Also have a manual on switch since a lot of cops tel you shut the vehicle off when they pull you over so my camera stays on when the ignition is off [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I run a stand-alone fuse panel on a breaker with a relay. This way I can trip the breaker when it goes in for service if there is a draw or anything. I can post pictures of the setup if you want but need to go take them. Very simple setup that works well and I have a manual on switch along with the parking mode setup in the camera. This is my 3 black vue. First one lasted 10 years almost and then started haveing pixelation issues and the sky would be bright pink. But ten years of 120 degrees in summer and -5 winters. I’d say it did it’s job.

Would like to see pictures too. Your install looks very clean and I like how you powered them. This will be my first installation so pics are very helpful.

ok so I need to dig out the actual relay kit I used and a standard 12 volt (cigarette lighter plug) I used. But it uses the BlackVue 12 volt socket adaptor and then a 5 wire relay with a switch. (Only to keep camera on when ignition is off) their are company’s that sell adaptors for the auto dimming mirror to grab a 12 volt key switched signal but I don’t have that feature and wanted to use my setup with a manual switch. Really easy to use a plug and play fuse tap to grab a switch signal and the rest is running a few wires. I like this setup for the stand-alone auto/manual feature. There are many ways to wire these and make them how ever you want them. This is how I did mine. Also all those wires and relay are tucked behind p/s lower kick panel all of which come off very simply with one nut a slight pull [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Seems like a lot of excess parts. There is a Toyota OEM dash-cam connector above the headliner/console. A connector with DPDT switch spliced in to the power cord of dash-cam will give you a hot or accessory switched power. Make it a 3 position switch and it hot/off/acc.

like I said this is how I did it. I have this setup in three vehicles. It works and is fine for me. Considering i bought the relays in a ten pack and the rest of the setup was under $75. Not gonna say this is better or worse than the rest. Just a way or idea for others. To each is own just passing on info.

Like you said, it's how you did it. I'm just giving advice for others as another option.

I have this too. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to install my rear camera still since my whole rear window rolls down and I don't want to screw it in to the roof.

For the Rear 'dash' camera, there was something posted a few months ago of a plastic clip that went up into the head-liner near the back window and the camera attached to it via double sided tape. It was probably in one of the dashcam threads.
