I just bought a used 2009 Toyota Tundra Truck. I wonder if there is any way to find out what the red light and On\Off Toggle Switch with round black button are to the right of the Tow\Haul button in front of the gear shift. The Toyota Dealer I bought the truck from said they don't know because this an after market installation and suspect the red light is a security system but didn't know what the on\off toggle switch with round black button below is.20190927_085032[1].jpg

Red light is an alarm led, black button to the right is valet/programming button. The toggle switch is maybe a neutral safety switch or remote start disable. I never installed the toggle switches when I installed alarms back in the day.

What does your remote look like?

Almost positive that this is Directed Electronics DEI branded unit

I got two remotes with the 2009 Tundra. I am not sure the remote with the blue buttons and the car trunk open was for the Tundra. There was a 2007 Camry Owner's manual that came with the Tundra documentation. The second three button remote with red button works.

The red light started blinking one time and the map display started flickering and moving in and out. I'm not sure why the red light came on and went off. The red light may have been reset when I turned the truck off.

I was correct, you have a DEI Avital alarm, possibly remote start with it. Or it could be just keyless/remote start add on. The remote with the trunk pop is just a default remote. Some say AUX instead of trunk pop icon. Either way that button can be programmed for things other than trunk pop.

Depends on how it was installed, factory alarm system can communicate with aftermarket.

You also may have remote start on the truck. Flip the toggle switch to on and press the star button 2 times, possibly 3. With a short pause between the presses. Wait about 10 seconds and the truck may start.

Do you have a stereo with GPS or anything? I'm not sure. I have a stereo and a screen that shows a map when going forward and a camera that shows the view behind me on the same screen as the map when I'm going backwards.

    ZeRussian,

Thank you so much! At least I'll have a starting point. I may be able to get some documentation on how a DEI Avital alarm works.

Typically these lights won't blink when ignition is on as that would be a distraction while driving at night unless you are in programming mode or the alarm is going off or they are blinking an error code. They blink with ignition off and truck locked to signal intruders that you have an alarm system.

I'm not sure why the red light was blinking then. Perhaps I hit some button or got in programming mode by accident while I was driving the truck.

    Very welcome.

Avital has a lot of models but they all pretty much operate the same way. You can find manuals under support section on avital.com. Unfortunately you can't tell the model number by looking at the remote. I'd be close by saying this is somewhere in their 4000 series model, 4130 maybe? The manual may be confusing too since it talks about axillary features, defroster activation etc which are optional features and are not installed by the installer 90% of the time.

If you truly want to know the model, you can follow the wires from the button/led light to the alarm "brain" its a single black box that's about 3"x5" tucked away way up behind the dash above your pedals and it'll have the model on that.
