I just put a refundable deposit down on a 23 SR5 TRD blue crewmax 6.5' bed, The only thing I don't like about the build is that it coming in with cloth seats. I have a baby, dogs, and a falconry bird. Cloth seats will get wrecked in short order, the dealer said he can have leather seats installed for $1100 I originally thought he meant the black softex OEM seats I requested but found out today that it will be aftermarket leather seat (skins I assume, not just covers over the OEM cloth).

Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket leather seat skins? Do they hold up?

    Thanks

Had katzkin in my tacoma. Excellent quality and you can pick your own design, two tone, colors, etc.

Leather isn't always the best way to go. Carhartt has some quite decent HD duck canvas seatcovers. Tough as nails but not skin tight. Worth considering.

My only dislike on mine is the Softex which is OK but stiffer sitting than leather. Base OEM leather is not top grade really, so the 3rd party ones are as good as that. $1100 is a very good price from a dealer

Appreciate the replies, I was able to get the installers company name so I will do some digging. The $1100 is for black only but it does seem a bit cheap, when the truck comes in and I get to talk to the sales guy face to face i'll find out a little more.

I'll consider running a seat cover on the back seat as well since that is where most of the mess will be.

If you're going with the leather ask about adding in heating and cooling. You'll have to use the perforated leather, but I had this as well and it was a really nice upgrade.

It was a while ago, don't remember exactly. $1k-2k with a good chunk of that being the heating and cooling addition. I think that almost doubled the price.

$1100- is a great price for installed katzskin seats. However, I think they still need to be protected from pets.

I groom my labrador's nails twice a week but still put a pet seat cover over the softex.

Nice causal flex- "Yeah I have a huge bird that goes out on command and gets dinner the comes back and lands on my arm. What do you guys think of leather seats?" LOL.

I agree with the idea of a seat cover. Leather isn't as rugged as one may think. The leather seats in both this and my last Tundra definitely get covered when my dog is in the vehicle.

Don't think we don't want to see pics of a falcon perched inside your truck...
