Anyone have experience buying after, arket body parts pre-painted by either eBay sellers or come online retailers? Wanting to repair my dented tailgate (dent on the top lid) as I look to put on a Diamondback cover. Since the Diamondback seals on the top of the tailgate, instead of my current cover which has a lip that extends over the lip, I wanted to get it repaired first.

Autobody shop quoted $1300 to repair and repaint the metal, which includes new trim piece, which is damaged, and recovering Line-X. I've see ads for pre-painted tailgates for $750, which I would still have to buy the trim piece and move over all my existing hardware and hinges, but a lot cheaper. Just don't know about ordering a big part like that online, hoping it arrives without new dents, having same quality as OEM, and color matches the truck. Looking for others with similar experience.

I find a lot of parts on Facebook Marketplace. I only do face to face pick up. TOO MANY SCAMMERS trying to get you to send money and they say they will ship it to you. I only pick up the part in person. There are several tailgates listed for sale. Check it out. If you do not see many in your area you can move the area of the map to a neighboring area. Covers about a 250 mile area at a time for each search.
Craigslist also is a good place to look. But only meet in person.

My neighbor bought a pre-painted part for his old truck - I forget what part exactly - but the paint was an exact match and the part arrived well-packaged and undamaged.

I have no idea who the vendor was, and I’m sure he doesn’t remember either. Just telling you about his experience.

I would say look online for a reputable seller with good reviews and you should be fine.

Those are great. Thanks! I researched more of the online painted "new" tailgate sites and a lot of them lacked great reviews once I dug in. So I found yet another body shop that gave me a reasonable quote to fix and paint my existing tailgate. Still waiting to get it back at the end of the week. So we'll see if I get what I paid for one way or the other. As long as it is straight, structurally sounds and looks good from 10ft I'll be happy. The rest of the truck has enough scratches on it.
