You would need to look through the head unit manual and see if it supports steering wheel controls. Most should, but you never know.

I had controls with the head unit as I have a maestro installed replaced the jbl amp now have no steering wheel controls...
I'm wondering if the signal goes direct to the deck or does it route through the amp?

Maestro connects to the HU with a 4 pin Data cable in the back of the HU on most HUs.
    Which HU do you have?
Did the controls ever work with the new HU or did this issue start afterwards?

doubt its routed through the amp... there may be a signal interruption, due to the installation of the amp.. I'm no electrical engineer, but you may need an additional wiring adapter for the controls...

I may be wrong on my previous comment, I think you're correct and it may actually be routed through the amp due to volume controls which will go through the amp itself...

    What HU do you have?
You may need to reflash the Maestro since you pulled the JBL amp.
