My 1 year subscription is about to run out. What are you guys using for remote start? I was looking at the fortin evo one lte. The price is a little high but the subscription isn’t too bad, 130 for 3 years. By the time I buy the kit and pay for 3 years it’s going to be close to just paying for the Toyota app for 3 years. The only advantage is the fortin doesn’t turn off when you open the door. Anything else out there worth considering?

I imagine there could be good products out there, however historically aftermarket remotes starters have been poison. Even worse when improperly installed. The cause of many gremlins and problems.I would personally never consider it with today's modern complicated vehicles. Not really a fair comparison, but I bought a used Chevy truck that had one. I can't remember what the specific problem was, but it wasn't resolved until all the wires(and scotch connectors:confused::eek:) from that system were removed. In the case of the third generation Tundra, most will start with the FOB by pressing the lock button twice, then holding on the third press.

Just looked this site up and the details on the kit. Were the instructions pretty good and detailed? I'm considering this. I never use remote start from factory because the stupid "turn off when open door" feature... There's no annual fee if you just use your factory remote it seems, is that correct?

Instructions were perfectly clear. Its 90% plug and play, other than having to tap into one wire and cutting another. Kit came with a login for idata where I was able to program the module. Very simple if you are ok with this kinda stuff.

No annual fee for the 2-way/oem fob setup.

The remote start on mine worked when I bought the truck, but as soon as I canceled all of the Toyota subscription and data gathering services, the remote start no longer works. This was all by using the key fob. It no longer works and is frustrating that the vehicle has the technology (and I paid for it) but it has been disabled. If anyone has figured out a way to use remote start with the key fob after canceling the Toyota services please let me know! I've heard that it should still work but I can't get mine to work.

The Fob on my two year old 2023 SR5 works by pressing the lock button twice, then holding on the third.

Interesting. Not sure why mine doesn't work but some do.

@Dpoll995, maybe yours will work even after the subscription services expire?

Okay thanks. No other squirrely issues with any other tech in the truck after doing this? I had read somewhere or watched a video where someone used this brand on a 4runner and had issues with the Bluetooth or something like that. Who knows if they installed it wrong though.

Also, did you have to send it back to the company for them to program it? I had read that on their site. Or are you saying you did that yourself with the idata login?

Absolutely nothing wrong or funky after the install. Everything works as it should.

I didnt send it back....you can if youre not comfortable programming the module yourself though...they provide the label and all. I had no problem going on the site, using the provided login and flashing the module in 5-10 mins. It really is that simple. The hardest part is getting to the 2 wires you need to work on...the oem harnesses dont have much slack, but I was able to solder on my connections w/o issue....everything else is plug and play with quality connectors.

Okay cool, thanks! You've sold me on this one. I like how there's no annual fee, it's mostly plug and play AND (most importantly for me) the truck doesn't turn itself off when you open the door. Once I'm able to justify the cost I'll jump on it.

Exactly...the only time it does shut off is if you remote start with the oem app and then you open the door. Wont shut off if I use the oem fob or the kit fob. If youre not gonna keep the toyota services, then this isnt a concern. I still pay for the service, thats the only reason why I know about this.

Sounds good, thanks for letting me know. I don't have the Toyota app services anymore and don't plan to reactivate. I know my fob will still remote start the truck but love the idea of this kit letting me remote start and it not shutting down on me.

yup, and you dont have to be within 15 feet of the truck for it to work. Run time can be extended via the programming as well.

This has my interest now. I’ve been paying the Toyota app for 2 years now and one of the most annoying part is 10 min run time. Having to remember to remote it twice. I didn’t know you can extend it with the accessoride kit. :monocle:

How long can you extend it. Ideally I like to have it run for 20 min like I do on my Mitsubishi Evo X.

yeah, you can do 20 mins. IDR what the max run time was. You would have to ask them

I heard Compustar remote does not shut off the engine when you open the door. Anyone knows which compustar kit/model?

I installed a remote start kit on my 16 TSS about 4 years ago. Wish I could tell you what brand, etc. but I did it myself. Not difficult to do at all. I have to admit, I've occasionally had some weird things happen where the truck will not turn off (in case you changed your mind and aren't leaving right away) and other weird issues, but not entirely sure and its pretty rare that this happens. I've also had a few issues where the panic alarm sounds and I have a hard time getting the remote to shut it off by itself. I recall having to go INTO the truck and put the key in and start it, before the alarms quit. Weird, like I said. But overall, its great because having that in Texas in the summer is a boon.

In my RX and GX I used the remote starter from a "12 Volt Solutions" (in 1 word). Installation is super easy, 3 clicks from OEM remote to start (but range is same as what OEM remote provides). The kit comes with cellphone module using TMobile network and 1 year of free service (works just like DroneMobil). after the free year it costs $39/year.

I have installed 4 kits for family vehicles and it works flawless for about 3 years now. Unfortunately, it is not available for the 3GEN Tundra.

To clarify, after installing this remote start system you got increased range from the OEM FOB? That would be worth it IMHO. I have never had a vehicle in the past 20 years with a worse range for even unlocking my truck!

It's not cancelling the subscription services that will end remote start, it's the Toyota Connected Services Master Data Consent that if you decline, you immediately lose remote start. This just confirms they are holding your truck hostage, if you don't let them collect data on you. Criminal IMHO.

Only the 2 way remote included in the kit offered the increased range. Oem still sucks.

Any change of getting a picture of the remote included in the kit? Similar size to the OEM remote?
