I don't think it's anything new to the Tundra community that the wheel studs are short, similar issue/problem as 2nd Gen owners. That being said, I've been searching the forum for the past couple days, and there seems to be mixed information regarding the use of normal spline lug nuts vs. extended (ET) spline lug nuts for aftermarket wheels to ensure sufficient thread engagement on the studs.

I'll try to update this thread with the information I gather from across all my searches, but first off, I want to ask various owners what they run.

    Fuel wheels - what lugnuts
    Rhino wheels - what lugnuts
    RRW wheels - what lugnuts
    Brink wheels - what lugnuts
    Method wheels - what lugnuts
    KMC wheels - what lugnuts

From the research I've done, minimum thread engagement for the Tundra studs (M14x1.5) are approx 9.5 turns, and I doubt most, if any of the ones using normal spline lug nuts are getting the 9.5 turns.

I know that the wheels I have (Brink Insurgent in 20x9 ET18) have approx 5-6 thread engagement with normal spline lug nuts, as they can't accommodate ET lug nuts, and to me that's just not enough, to the point that I may get the lug holes in the wheels redri

Can any and all post up what lug nuts you are using, with your wheel setups and how many turns you got before torquing them down to spec?

I'd be extremely grateful if someone, running ET lug nuts, could measure their lug holes in your wheels, just want to see how much tolerance you have.

I searched high and low myself and nada on et style lug nuts.

I also could not use et style and use the conical seat I purchased from Amazon. I have 6 turns and torqued. I also have hub centric rings.

I have had no issues and just just torque check lug nuts when I wash the truck. I keep the torque wrench in the truck. So far, zero movement and I don’t think it will move at all.

I am not going to redrill my wheels.

What wheels do you have? I've been debating what ET lugs to use, and I've finally decided to go with Gorilla ET Spline lug nuts.

What wheels are you using to run these? The description says ET, but picture is not, can you confirm that they are indeed extended thread lug nuts?

SCS carries ET style lug nuts, for their wheels, no? At least that's what I found out when trying to find ET lug nuts.

This is a response I got from SCS when asking what the specs of their lug nuts were :

I ordered a set and didn’t fit. They have Tundra Specific wheels from previous gen and the ET style may work for those.

I purchased my Ray10’s which are for 6 lug and meant for the 4runner and Tacoma’s, so that is probably the reason why the ET style didn’t fit for my Tundra.

SCS just released the F5 18x9 specifically for our Tundra. So the ET style may work.

I would go to guess they don’t manufacture their lugs and their lugs are just the same as many other 14x1.5 ET 8 spline kits out there.

I run SCS Ray10 with their ET lug nuts. I also had my doubts about them. When I got my wheels and lug nuts, I put one in the hole and look at the back. They sat blow the wheel mounting surface. I don’t my own tire rotation and haven’t had an issue. I rotate every 5k and have done 3 so far with the ET lug nuts. I think the problem with the ET’s are if they protrude pass the the wheel by a hair and then are over tightened. Or just over tightening in general I would figure. For this reason I don’t take my truck to the dealer. The use a 1” impact gun to tighten the lug nuts to 1,000 ft-lbs.

SCS uses 8 spline. At least that’s what they sent me.

I plan on doing the same once my Gorilla lugs come in, measure them and ensure that they don't protrude past the wheel mounting hub, which I don't think they do! And same, I'll ensure that the dealer doesn't rotate my wheels/tires, I can do that myself!

I was just bummed that SCS would not provide specs for their lug nuts, I wasn't asking anything specific!

Shank diameter and length, every other ET lug nut seem to specify this info.

Happy Holidays all. I have a 22 Tundra SR5 and put on bigger aftermarket tires and Fuel wheels. Took it in for service and tire rotation and they wouldn't rotate the tires stating there was not enough thread on the lugnuts. Has anybody find any lugnuts that are extended or have more "bite" to them? I think I'm only getting about 4 or 5 turns per lugnut.

So apparently I didn’t have SCS Lugs first go around.

I ordered another set of SCS lugs ET style and they absolutely fit! Feel so much better with these on.

Just make sure that your Fuel wheels can accommodate ET lug nuts, as in the lug holes in the wheels are large enough, if not, you'll need to redrill them, which is what I'll need to do with my wheels.

FYI, I've been communicating with my wheel manufacturing and their engineer has said that it won't cause any damage/issues if I redrill them 1-1.5mm bigger in diameter.
