AGM battery from Costco, would I need the diode fuse?

Another post about AZ and how the heat is brutal on everything here. My truck battery is 2.7 years old so I am going to replace it. Costco is showing an Interstate brand 24F AGM battery as an option. Is it worth it and would my 2019 SR5 need the diode fuse to properly charge this battery? The AGM is $185

They also have the Interstate 27F size for $110

I haven’t purchased the fuse yet, but been running on AGM for the last 1.5 year now.

You will want to call the local Costco, cause I have yet to find a Costco that actually carries it.
On another note, I have the batteries plus X2 31M (I know, what was I thinking) and I got the diode, but the highest I can get after trickle charge is 14.2V and two weeks later the running voltage is about 13.6V
Not sure if I have a weird battery or is the diode is just doing it's job but the ECU is noticing and limiting?

Batteries + has a rebranded Northern, here is what just happened to one I got in late '21

I took the truck to Firestone for an alignment, when I picked it up, they said my 23 month old X2 AGM was dying & showed me the report showing it had 329CCA of the rated 930. I took it to Batteries+ & they replaced it. I have until 9/26 on the free replacement warranty although he said it was a max of 2 free replacements so hopefully I don't find out what that means.

Did you have the diode and trickle charge once a while?
Or just bone stock and letting the alternator charge it as you drive?

I had the 50.00 diode from Holland or somewhere left over from my Tundra that didn't seem to do anything in the Sequoia. I have the 7.00 GM from Amazon that does bump it up to 13.8- 14 & I trickled it regularly on a smart charger. Thinking the record heat summers we have been having did it in.

I had no clue there was an issue, truck started quickly every time (sounded like it was cranking normally, cranking the same on this new battery that I tested with my Autel & it is showing over 930)

What Autel tool do you have? I have been looking at them.

They are not cheap but they work (with some trial & error)

Bluetooth is a blessing & curse, connectivity is sometimes a hassle but allows the battery tool to send the data to the tablet, I have been unable to get any of the apps to work with several iOS & Android phones.

I was wondering how the battery test function is on this one.

I am unfamiliar with that but have found stand alone units can be troublesome.

I bought one of these last year primarily to expand the number of USB ports that have with the added benefit of having my electrical system voltage monitored. I have a Northstar AGM 27F battery in my truck (4 years old). I do not have the added diode installed to boost the charge to my battery. The interesting thing is that the voltage monitor shows my alternator charging my battery around 14.2 volts when it seems to need it, and a lower voltage when driving on long trips. It appears to me that the diode is not really needed. If I don't drive my truck for an extended period of time, I just put a trickle charger on it and it doesn't overcharge it.

I've been seeing a lot of mention of this little "diode" contraption being used with AGM batteries over the last year or so (basically since I joined this site).
I've seen people explain that the point of it is to place resistance on the charging circuit, to trick the computer into putting out a higher charge rate.
My basic understanding of how a diode works is: its function is to only allow current to flow in only one direction. Seems to me that we're talking about a resistor and not a diode.
So, for any of our resident electrical engineers, are we talking about a diode, a resistor, a fuse, a small circuit comprised of all 3,....and can someone explain how it actually works?

Think of the diode as a gate. It takes a fixed amount of voltage (at a given temp) to open the gate allowing current to flow. The ECU ( or whatever the control mechanism is) compensates for the perceived drop by boosting the alternator's output.
