I'm looking to upgrade the tires on my 2022 Tundra Limited Off Road. I've decided on the size, 275/70/R18, but need some input/pics on the tire. I do most of my driving on streets, but do some mild off-roading from time to time.

Here are the most important things when I've been looking:
    • Decent fuel economy/weight
    • Looks - something that looks beefier than a tire like the Falken Wildpeak Trail
    • Ride Quality
I'm leaning towards the Falken Wildpeak AT, but they're around 59 pounds at the size and they seem to be more of an aggressive tread. Anyone have the Wildpeaks AT and can provide any input on the ride quality and fuel economy. Something just a little less aggressive is probably something I'm looking for

You can't go wrong with the Falken Wildpeaks. It's a very popular tire and I hardly ever hear anything bad about it.
I am a Cooper AT3 fan. You can get the XLT or a little milder sidewall S4. I got almost 80,000 miles on my last set on a 2018 Tundra. I was very impressed, not just the mileage, but traction, wear, low noise etc. also.

    I have the K02’s

Pro’s: they look great. They are ok in the dirt I’ve used them in and are durable. I hit a curb at speed and they shrugged it off.

cons:they are abhorrent on the street in the rain.

Sounds like you want an aggressive looking P-rated tire that still behaves on the pavement.

Check out this General Grabber tire. It’s almost the exact same weight as the stock tires and will behave like a street tire, not an LT all terrain.

Plenty have gone for the Cooper Discoverer A3 XLT and been happy. Aggressive sidewall, smooth on road performance, and good Offroad performance.

I think @Outbound has a set on his old first Gen if my memory serves me correctly.

I had the Cooper ST Maxx. I loved them. For my '22 I'm looking at the AT3 XLT or Falken Wildpeaks.

Yes they're heavier, yes mpg will suffer.

At least 10 threads on each type of AT tire available on the market. Several large threads of "specific tire setups with photos".

expect a 1-3mpg hit based on the weight of the tire.

Toyo Open Country AT3-> Cooper Disco XLT3 (or whatever the nomenclature is) -> BFG KO2 -> Falken WP AT3w -> Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT are great tires with good road manners and enough tread to handle "light off-roading". All of these tires look great too.

Totally. I had them on my 14 DC in 295/70r18. Felt like I was towing the space shuttle.

Just installed these Falken Wildpeak AT3 this past weekend. Happy with the grip in wet weather, turning they feel solid, not as squishy, beefy tread, good looks. These are factory size 255/70R18 P rated. MPGs did decrease by 2. They are heavy. Just an fyi I had Hankook Dynapro AT2 tires prior and after approximately 20,000 miles they were horrible in wet weather, spinning tires was so easy it was annoying and they would slide out on certain turns, very dangerous.

With these prices, no tire's looking good.

My experience is with KO2's, Wildpeak, and Nitto's. KO2's are indestructible. Have done some serious wheeling with those and they have been rock solid. Downside is tread doesn't last as long as I would like.

Out of all of them I would recommend the Wildpeak's, then the KO2's then the Nitto's/

Where are you from OP? I am a big KO2 fan, have had them on multiple vehicles over the years and never had a single issue and they are absolutely indestructible. I have heard they arent that great in the rain but being in california, we dont get much rain so it has never been an issue for me. I also use them in snow and offroad and dont have a single bad thing to say about them.

I have the Wildpeaks, and while heavy, they're amazing in all aspects, including towing. Heavy? Sure, but that is literally the only negative. Great tire for every job.

Was looking at the General Grabber AT2, the KOs and the Cooper AT3s. Seeing them in person, I had to go Wildpeak.

Still 57 lb a piece. I'd like to hear someone's thoughts on them, though, so go for it. I would warn that at +15-16lb per corner, you are simply not going to maintain the same ride quality or fuel economy with those, let alone with any LT tire. It's all about mitigating the extent to which those two criteria fall given your needs.

Your OP makes it sound like you want AT looks but highway tire ride quality and fuel economy. That means P-rated tire, and the only P-rated tire in your desired size is the General Grabber APT that @BIGUGLY and I recommended. It has decent shoulder lugs and still only weighs 42 lb. That means basically no change in fuel economy, other than the dash miscalculating due to the different tire diameter. And lest we forget, a Tundra on P-rated tires is capable of far more than the majority of us do with our trucks.

Just picked up a set of wildpeaks. Going from a 6 ply to a 10, 33 to a 35 and dropping from a 20 to a 17. Going to be an interesting first ride that’s for sure

You can search by size on Discount Tire and then filter your results to SL load. These are the only ones that come up:

    275/70R18 General Grabber APT — 33.16”, 42lb
    285/65R18 Falken Wildpeak — 32.56”, 39lb

    thanks

ya I didn’t have much luck doing that , I guess it’s just slim pickings.

Guess it’s either 20” wheel or smaller tires with 18” wheel

Im going to try and stay away from load e this time around and keep the weight close to stock

The Recon Grappler 295/70/18 comes in a non-E load option...about 52 lbs if I recall.

Yes I’ve been down this route too looking for light weight 18” options for 33”+ just isn’t much out there. 17” rims have alot more options since this size and smaller are used more often on lighter vehicles with oversized tires (Jeeps etc.). There are Load C and D options vs 18” rims seem to almost exclusively be Load E in larger sizes likely due to being used on one ton trucks. Also you’d think thinner sidewalls in the same overall diameter would be lighter but apparently the metal cords/support near the rim weigh alot and offsets the thinner sidewall. Thus the lightest combination is usually a 17” forged rim with a Load C/D 33-35” tire.

I’ve had a few sets of ko2s, once they wear some they suck in the rain. Love the way they look and perform otherwise. This time I’ll probably try the toyo at3 or the nitto ridge graps. The wild peaks just don’t look aggressive enough for me.
