Before anyone reads me the riot act, I am NOT asking this question to watch videos while driving……I am planning on a career change after a very long two years and some soul searching. I plan on taking the tundra on some extended road trips staying at camp grounds and would like the ability to watch a show or movie every now and then when bored or the weather gets bad.

That said, I have an alpine ilx-f309 head unit with the wireless CarPlay carlinkit. I am wondering if there is an easy way to get video playback or phone mirroring on the unit? I know there is an hdmi port on the back of the unit. Is it as easy as running an hdmi to the apple converter into the phone? If so that’s easy enough…….is there a way to do it wirelessly?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, it can be done with the lightning adapter. I can watch Netflix and Amazon Prime on my Pioneer HU.

At the 11:00 mark it kind of show you how to use your phone as hotspot. For the pioneer radio. I think for the pioneer to wired screen sharing, you just need usb-c to hdmi cable. But the cable MUST be full hd 1080p. The 4k will not work.

i have the jvc kw-z1000w and i have the Amazon firestick hooked up to the hdmi. Full hd 1080p cable only. Hotspot from my phone. This way my phone is free while the firestick is in used.

I just ran an hdmi cable from the head unit and plugged in my apple adapter. For some reason it won’t play…..the screen mirrors but freezes and won’t play - then defaults back to Home Screen. I was in park and had the parking brake engaged. I am wondering if I need the proprietary alpine cable……anyone with this head unit have any suggestions?

I have the Carlinkit adapter for wireless CarPlay and am wondering if that’s somehow interfering

What hdmi cable are you using? 1080p, 4k?

I just unplugged the Carlinkit……and it started working. I guess there is some kind of interference when both are connected at the same time?

Probably. Both trying to fight for the screen. I know with my radio carplay have to be disconnected if i want to mirror or watch vids on a thumb drives.

I ended up buying the integrated usb / hdmi cable from alpine. It fit into one of the 12v sockets and looks factory. I have my carlinkit plugged into the usb port for wireless carplay and if I want to watch videos i simply unplug that and use the apple hdmi / lightning adapter. Works perfectly.

    Here is the cable:
    Amazon.com: Alpine USB/HDMI Extension Cable : Electronics

I will get a picture of the install when I get back to my truck. Looks stock
