So I have a standard rear view mirror and would like to swap in a new one. The Toyota auto dim mirrors with garage door options are tipping in around $300+ which seems a bit high. Checking around I found that Nissan auto dim units and Gentex units come in around $60 on fleabay.

Has anyone installed an auto dim mirror other than the stock Toyota? Please share.

I installed a junk yard Gentex with auto dimming/compass and Homelink into mine.

Cut the junk yard harness as long as you can. Was $20. The Toyota pig tail is tucked up in the console. I just tapped the wires to it.

Although my truck is a TRD SR5, it apparently only came with a plain mirror. So I'm guessing you had to take the roof console off to do this? The Gentex with dimming/compass and Homelink is the one I'm looking at. Can you recall if one power and one ground runs the show, or are there more wires to connect, say for the compass or Homelink? Appreciate the info, thank you.

Pulled the trigger on a Gentex with dimming/compass and Homelink. Now to find the info on how to wire it up. This will be my first official mod for the truck. Oh boy, I feel this may become a slippery slope, lol. Will start a build page for my truck as soon as the mirror arrives :dancingbacon:

You'll have to remove the top console. There should be a pig tail up there.

My Gentex had 2 positives (1 for homelink, 1 for the mirror) and 1 ground. Any 12v power source can help you identify what is what if you have a junk yard mirror like I used.

You can wire it up however you like. I've seen folks wire the homelink to ignition hot because they don't want people opening the garage thru the truck.

Bouncing an old thread. I have the standard manual mirror that flips by hand and it's starting to delaminate. I want to install an auto-dimming one w/ compass and temperature. Don't need Homelink. I want the thermometer because the dash one (like the rest of my dash) is nearly impossible to read in bright sunlight and also because the dash thermometer being calibrated in Celsius usually jumps two degrees Fahrenheit due to the conversion factor. Does anyone know if any of the aftermarket mirrors do correct temp in Fahrenheit? The funny thing is that our 2006 Sienna runs through the temps in F one degree at a time. Thanks.
