I'm thinking it's time to replace the factory alternator on my 07 with 265,000 miles. I'm honestly very surprised it's lasted as long as it has and I STILL don't have any problems but I'm slowly upgrading the stereo and once it's all finished I'm gonna have over 2700 watts worth of amplifiers so I'm sure it won't have much time left once I'm done.

Also have all aftermarket lighting replacements for the old halogen bulbs as well as front and rear cameras (not that it matters)

At idle, voltage stays around 13.3-13.6 (based off of maestro RR reading through the obd2 port) and what currently is installed is an 800 watt 4 channel and 800 watt sub amp. Upgrading to a 1500 watt sub amp in the next couple days, and replacing the 800 watt 4 channel with a 1200 6 channel in the next couple months when Crutchfield restocks them.

What I'm asking is if anyone else has done an upgraded alternator and what brand they chose/how many amps it's putting out. I believe the stock one is 170 amps and after shopping around I saw one that was 260 amps but I just want to hear some peoples opinions as I'm not very aware of any quality brands that may be out there when it comes to alternators since I've never had to replace mine!

    Any input is appreciated

No need for an upgrade really. Considering the stock unit met your needs and lasted as long as it did, why not just replace with a new toyota alternator and have it last another 10+ years. I dont think any aftermarket high output alternator will last as long as the toyota part.

Well considering I'm adding 2700 watts of output to the stock system, I'm 100% sure the stock alternator is not enough to handle it.

I just swapped out the 800 watt sub amp with a new 1500 watt one and I can visibly see the voltage dropping 1-2 whole volts every time the bass hits no matter if I'm driving or idling. (and that's not even with the bass turned all the way up)

This is before I swap out the 4 channel for a 6 channel which adds ANOTHER 400 watts to the system.

So even though yes I'd love to go with oem again since this one lasted so long, buying another oem one would be a big mistake cause I'd be replacing it within a year or two. (same with the battery)

I think I've got it narrowed down between these two alternators:

Mechman 240 amp alternator ($429 plus shipping)
    https://www.mechman.com/alternators...010-2012/s-series-240-amp-alt-for-toyota-5-7/

DC Power 270 amp alternator ($599 plus shipping)
    https://www.dcpowerinc.com/products...3ur-fe?rq=yr_2007~mk_toyota~md_tundra~le_5-7l

Does any one have experience with either of these alternators? Any suggestions on any other ones?

With the amplifiers I have currently it's adding a 200 amp draw on my system at full tilt (so more like 140-160 with normal use) and I'm thinking either of these will work.

Based off of some of the research I've done it sounds like people start to have troubles with alternators that are 300+ amps because the truck idles too low in drive to spin the alternator pulley enough to charge the system, even with a smaller serpentine belt and pulley.

Not sure if this is still a problem on the lower amperage alternators so any information on the topic helps!
