Anybody done this to the 3rd gen yet?
Never understood why the fogs have to turn off when high beams are on, must be a legal thing.

Yes it is a legal code. (No more than 4 seeing lights in front.) But at the same time- Your high beams will outshine anything your fogs provide unless it's foggy (no use for high beams then anyway) which suggests you only want it for cosmetic purposes only.

I suggest saving the retinas of the driver coming at you head on and leave it alone.

My fog lights light up the sides of the road closer to the truck better than the headlights. It helps spotting last second deer.

My fog lights are way brighter than my high beams but they don’t illuminate as far as the high beams. Also, like @mass-hole stated, you lose the wide angle from the fog lights when you turn on the high beams.

I have a hard time believing that your fog lights are brighter than your hi-beams. This is not the case on my 23 or any other vehicle I have ever driven or owned?

Do you have after market fog lights? Do you mean they are brighter than low-beams or running lights?

    Just trying to understand

I have always heard of this "rule" as well, and I know most manufacturers have the fog lights turn off when you activate the high beams.

My personal thoughts every time I think about this; When you see another car... you turn your highbeams off, so its not like you are going to be shining 6 "bulbs" into oncoming traffic. Why not give as much light output as possible with high beams.

Every time I see a Ford Superduty, they have 2 low beam bulbs in there headlight assembly + their fog lights. 6 bulbs.

To do that in a Ford you have to activate it in the BCM with some software. They dont do it stock.

And I agree. If your high beams are on when people are driving at you then you are blinding them anyways. What difference does it make at that point if the fogs are also on.

Sounds like a big increase in output ? Over the factory ones ? Are they still reasonable to use during daily driving ? Not too blinding.

Maybe some of you guys know the answer. For some reason my fog lights only remain on for a few seconds and then they turn off. It makes no sense.

If you're traveling fast enough to warrant high beams, you don't need fog lights, and if you weren't able to see the deer with your highs on, it won't matter anyway.

Conversely, if it's foggy enough to warrant using your fog lights, using your high beams will actually make it more difficult to see what's on the road in front of you with all the light reflecting back from the fog.

As a reminder, please don't turn on your fog lights when it's raining or if there's water on the road. No one on the road around you appreciates the glare in their eyes.

    Be a courteous driver.

I think it’s just the awesomeness factor to have as many lights firing down the road as possible. The garbage justifications aren’t necessary.

“Awesomeness” how old are you? You enjoy blinding oncoming drivers? These dicks running around in their Ford super duty trucks do a good enough job now you want to blind other drivers also? Must be over compensation for a small unit. Maybe you need Raptor lights to keep up with the Ford morons.it must be a Texas thing.

Sorry if you didn’t get the intent. I hate that crap, and ironically enough, I was hit by some jerks high intensity yellow fogs this morning (still don’t understand the yellow fog thing). It’s not just the fogs. I have seen several trucks locally that run with their OFF ROAD light bars on, and those things will really blind you. It’s typically all the bro tanks and mall crawler Jeep’s.

Fog lights don’t make sense with high beams. Although they do offer more width, they put significantly more light in the foreground, which completely destroys your ability to see long distance when using high beams. It’s not as simple as more light = better.

Yellow dogs do make sense, as they cut through weather
Yellow fogs do make sense, as they cut through weather better. But the issue is people don’t use sae dogs for them, they just pick any light bar or pod and throw them in. Usually they’re a spot or combo optic, which is basically a high beam to everyone else with no cut off. and I agree, where I am people drive with them on all the friggin time. It’s annoying. I use mine on the highway when no one is around, basically like a high beam.

The amber fog was actually required by most European countries for a long time. The testing their auto companies did in the 60s and 70s indicated that the amber illuminated enough to see safely, with the least glare from the fog. I don't know if their results have held up over time.

With my past f150 I was able to use Bambi mode and the fog lamps were on with the high beams. Did help as the factory leads were not so go as the high beams on you lost all lighting up close so Bambi mode helped. The new tundra is so much better as the low beams are always on with the high beams. No need for the fogs to be on with the highs.
Just a note the f250,s have twin low beams and the fogs are on so that's 6 lights on low.....so much for the rules I guess.Screenshot_20231117_182135_DuckDuckGo.jpg
