Need audiophile input! I'm not one, but I do like the best sound I can reasonably get. What HUs are reliable, Android based (built in, not Bluetooth Android Auto only), and support maestro controls for 2020 Tundra? I just discovered Tidal...much better sound than Spotify on my phone, but Bluetooth is lower resolution (on par with Spotify).

I've been dancing with new HU thoughts for a while for better sound...

    Thanks!

Teyes, Joying, and especially the Daisaita head units are popular on a lot of forums. That said, using a service that supports lossless audio like Apple music or Tidal like you mentioned along with a wired android auto/apple carplay connection, or getting a head unit that supports high res audio is about as good as it gets beyond getting an expensive DAP and going straight into your amp/dsp with signal.

I’m not an audiofile by any means, but I’ve had both the Dasaita and Joying unit in my 2nd Gen and the Joying has been a better experience for me.

I use it almost exclusively for wireless CarPlay and the Joying unit has had very few bugs and issues where my previous Dasaita had several bugs to the point I had to reboot every so often.

I like those android based units bc of the available apps you can install plus hot spotting to run apps like Netflix, YouTube, Xfinity, etc…

Thanks, appreciate it! I'll take a look at Joying!

Im running this Dasaita now - I like the unit and how it appears stock, but i must say, ive had issues almost from day one.

I was looking at both the Joying and this Dasaita. I chose the Dasaita simply because Joying kept providing different
answers as to which unit fit my Tundra and they didnt seem to know what the extra cost was for the canbus.

Unfortunately for me im past my return period simply becasue i thought they had fixes and allowed them to send me
updated MCU files and the like with their several different claims, "this will fix it".

    1. My main issue is 2 things. First the Fade doesnt work porperly.
    2. Almost no sound from Rear speakers

Most of the sound is from front doors and barely anything from the rear doors
    and tweets.

Strange because others with Tundra SR5 or above either have same issue or none at all
and everything is working as intended.

Sunday I reached back out to Dasaita and suggested a full purchase refund or exchange for a
properly running unit. Still waiting on their response.

If i had to do it again, I wouldnt.

Ahh man that's a real bummer. The allure of the android head units is super enticing and I know a lot of people have success with them, but cases like yours seem to be the biggest drawback, i.e. the quality control/unreliability. Have a friend looking to replace his girlfriends Subaru head unit that died and he's insisting on getting an "iDoing" that's similar to Joying/Daisaita and I keep trying to convince him to get a name brand one through a U.S. retailer so if there are issues you have a relatively easy avenue for solving them.

They have sent me 3 updates, one for Android and 2 MCU's. And also sent another harness that was repinned for the SR5 non JBL, but that harness pins are in the same location
as the original harness, so far nothing has worked.

They claim one mcu update was to correct the fade for the factory amp and the other MCU was to correct the fade for aftermarket amps.

I have asked them for a full refund and a prepaid shipping label or to replace my HU with another that has been fully tested and correctly working.
Just today they reached back out via email with the factory amp MCU update, so i applied it.

What make no sense is they claim one screen/setting within the amplifier option is for factory amp and another screen/setting is for aftermarket.
Also - from their facebook page, others with Tundra's JBL and non-JBL have claimed zero issues. Some with factory amp and some without.

I also just found out yesterday, my RCA for the rear speakers is bad and already purchased a replacement.
Once i get that replaced, this weekend, i will test their "so called" fixes.

If that doesnt correct it, im going to "stress highly again" they replace the unit or provide the full refund.

If your friend is "Dead set" on an iDoing unit, get it from Amazon and if it has ANY issues whatsoever, send it back immediately, do not wait.

Oof that sounds like a real pain but hopefully after the RCA patch and their updates you'll be good to go.

Yeah I think he's set on going the iDoing route. He's out of the country for a month and decided to wait until he gets back to pull the trigger in case there are any issues. For the money they're a crazy deal. That said, I know even with name brand units some people have issues. This is totally anecdotal but I've had friends with Pioneer head units that have been real finicky. I've got a cheapo Pioneer amp in my boat and it works great. Name brand stuff is almost always way overpriced for what you get specs wise. A Daisaita/Joying/iDoing/Tesla knockoff head unit is almost always a good bit cheaper and has better specs than the name brands but it all, name brand or otherwise seems to be kind of a crapshoot.

    Whats your budget?

I bought an android head unit for my commuter car. It was $70 from aliexpress and got here in a week. For me, i went with the cheapest possible route to get AA in a 2006 car that i drive once a week. It a $70 head unit. It doesn't sound that great, it doesn't have all the RCA's that i need. If i was going with an audiophile setup, these android headunits wouldn't even remotely be on my radar.

Hi gang, I installed the ViaBecs android unit in my 2010 Sequoia Limited w/JBL. All works except no Fader. Anything forward of fader midline is all speakers and any adjustment rear of fader midline decreases sound on all speakers down to zero when placed all the way to rear. Behaves like all speakers are wired through front channels.

Anyone know a fix for no rear fader?

Pretty happy with all other features, but need rear fader a bit and disliking HU for this issue more every day. Starting to consider returning it.

My understanding is this is a function of how the JBL is wired and sending to the speakers. Because of this there is no "fade" functionality on these type of HU's. I am in the market for an AMP and aftermarket speakers to avoid this. I have the Daisata 13 and love mine. Yeah it has it's quirks, but for the price, fit and features you can't beat it over OEM or the other major brands. It's probably not audiophile quality, but what it lacks in sound quality it makes up for in features.

Not accurate. The Phoenix Android HU has full balance and fade functionality with a JBL system.

@purplenova I have heard the ground cable needs to be hooked up to an actual ground, not the head unit mounting screws. Did Daisata ever get back with you? I ordered this head unit the other day, hoping for good results with it. Thanks.

They never did get back to me with specific questions for the ground cable, which wasnt one of my original concerns, since it wasnt listed in their instructions, i assumed it needed connected anyway. I did use one of the 4 mounting screws for the ground however.

I did get an updated mcu file that "Fixed" the fade problem. Evidently in their units for the tundra, there are two areas where you can "Fade" front/back and left/right.
I forget what the headings are since im not in the truck.

One section, as they claim, is used for fade if you have factory amp. The other section is for if you have aftermarket amp. which i do. Makes no sense to me why the two different sections, but thats what they said and the fade now works.

Hopefully you dont have a single issue. I like the look and the many options available since its android, but have found that i mainly use Android auto for NAv and one or two sources for music.

Make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable before you do anything !
