This is my first post on this forum but is there any other 4.0L v6 Tundra owners? Seems to be a very rare spec of the truck that very few people own. As far as I know 2007-2009 4.0s were the first design of the motor and after then they redesigned it for more power until it was no longer an engine option for the Tundra. More information on this link: Toyota 1GR-FE 4.0 V6 Engine Specs, Problems, Reliability, oil - In-Depth Review (motorreviewer.com). I've had my tundra since I was 16 years old and learned how to drive in it. The truck was originally sold in Florida and my father bought it to use it as a work truck here in NY and gifted it to me when I got my license. Since then, I have done a few minor things to the truck like a 3-inch lift with 34-inch tires, all new LED lights including the interior and keep up with all of the maintenance and repairs myself. I will say it does feel a little bit underpowered and I do wish I had 4x4, but overall, this truck has been my daily driver for the past 5 years and has done everything I have needed it to. I would love to try to start getting a discussion going about this spec of Tundra's as I have found it very hard to find any information on these trucks. I plan to keep it as long as I can and soon to hit 200,000 miles. Post up your 4.0 Tundra here if you happen to be an owner of one!IMG_8833.jpg IMG_8710.jpg IMG_5027.jpg

Boy, that is a nice clean 2008 Tundra you have there! You take very good care of your vehicles, nice to see.

What transmission comes with the 4.0 v6 engine? Those engine are rock solid in the Tacoma and FJ Cruiser world.

I have a very similar Tundra DC same color ( pyrite mica) the only difference is engine mine has 4.7L and no lift kit 260k miles have kept mine stock except for Toyo AT2 tires. Only 3 parts have been replaced the alternator, power steering pressure sensor and valve cover gaskets

I don't know the name of the transmission, but it comes with a 5-speed automatic. What's interesting is it does have a manual shift mode like the other 6 speed tundra's that actually holds the gears really well. Sometimes it's fun and useful to use it like a manual trans and its definitely more powerful in a little higher rpm so it doesn't feel as sluggish

    Nice looking truck!

Don't see too many of the V6 Tundras around, there is no real benefit. Gets the same gas mileage as the V8 but with less power. Enjoy the truck! Drive the wheels off of it.

If those are the only parts that have been replaced, you are WAY overdue for a timing belt replacement (every 90k miles).

    Welcome. Nice clean rare Tundra!

Loved the 4.0 V6 in my Tacoma’s. Wife has it in the 4Runner. Such a good engine.

I didn’t include the timing belt since that is expected maintenance and not a failed part. I have replaced timing belt, water pump and serpentine belt 2x the first at 115k miles and the second at 229k miles

both times I changed out the timing belt they were in great shape

I rarely see the 4.0 in something that isn't a complete base model white work truck. Is that an SR5 trim?

Good news. I agree, when I did my two timing belt replacements I had to be careful not to mix up the old belt from the new one since they were almost identical in condition.

I just bought my v6 tundra used with 105k for $4500 which felt like a good deal.
So far after a month its my daily work truck. No complaints. Does lack some power but im not hauling too much so its okay. Ill use my 2000 Tundra v8 for any heavy loads

Welcome to the forum! I’m a fan of the 4.0; I have two 4Runners with that engine and 400k between them. Neither has had significant engine repairs…and I’ve run them hard over the years.

I have owned my 2010 V6 Tundra for 6+ years, putting 100,000 miles on it with zero issues. It is my daily driver. We have also taken multiple long road trips in it with no problems.

It's great in the 4R's but underpowered for the Tundra.

I don’t have any problem getting around or keeping up with traffic.

A lot vehicles, including some new vehicles have a similar or worse power to weight ratio.

Towing or hauling heavy loads would be pushing it’s limits. But I don’t have to worry about that.
