As a former Gen2 TRD Pro Tundra owner (Cement, the best color) there were a lot of things I loved about that truck. There were a lot of things I didn’t love either. I always felt like it was a cheapie truck (hello plastic steering wheel), lack of tech (Carplay what?) and terrible ride (I know, it’s a truck) but after about 18 months I took the plunge into Raptor land.

I LOVEEEE my 2019 Ford Raptor. Great looks, awesome ride, tech out the wazoo. Yes, it’s a lot more money but it’s a pavement princess for me. I’ve considered a Gen3 Raptor, but it’s not different enough to justify the price jump. Definitely not looking at the Raptor R.

However, the new Tundra looks like they have stepped up. Wondering if anyone has made the jump from Raptor to the new TRD Pro here?

    Good looking truck!
For what it's worth, I had a 2.5 gen (2017) Tundra and now have the 3rd gen and although neither were a Pro model, all the improvements that came with the 3rd gen are way worth it to me. This is by far (in a GOOD way) a whole different truck than my 2017 was and I have no regrets trading up to it. I'm talking every aspect; drivability, tech, comfort, power, styling, there is not one thing I really miss about my '17 (maybe the TRD exhaust on the V8 just a tad ;))

The thought of a Ford Raptor R does make me salivate a little, likely right up to the point of pricing.

I wouldn't do it if you are happy with the Raptor. IMO the gen 2 Raptor is a great truck and putting yourself in debt for a truck that isn't too much of an upgrade is a bit wasteful. If you are tired of your Raptor and want something different, then sure, go for a Pro. The best way to make the decision is to drive a 22 Pro, but that isn't really doable.

If your Gen 2 isn't effected by the Cam Phaser recall, keep it. The Tundra's are nice, but I miss my gen 2. Wish I had it over my gen 3 honestly.

I wouldnt give up the Raptor if its been reliable for you. Its a sweet truck. TRD Pro is a regular tundra with some fancy shocks and a huge markup. You could literally buy any random truck on the market and slap some shocks on it and have the same thing.

I have a Gen 3 raptor on order. Drove a 22 TRD pro and liked it but not over the 37 raptor. I might have bought the new Pro if it wasn’t marked up 10k over sticker. My Raptor 37 is $74k. Crazy toyota dealer wanted $84k for the pro

Had the cam phaser issue come up twice. Also had a transmission issue. But did love the truck.

I had an '18 and '21 Raptor. Both were fun vehicles and obviously look the part but being purely objective, they both did not have the build quality that the price tag reflected. I bought the '21 last fall hoping they made significant improvements but the quality control for the Raptor leaves something to be desired...at least in my experience (paint, tranny, fit and finish, missing bolts/panel gaps, etc). I am not building up the current Tundra right now either as it obviously has it's fair share of issues as well. But, the Tundra feels "tighter" to me and while I think the world of the current gen 3, the gen 2 ran circles around the big 3 regarding quality. If you haven't already done so, for viewing pleasure take a look at videos of the assembly line where the Raptor is built...notice the floor and see how there is no housekeeping and junk just laying all over the place (typically that is indicative of build quality). Then, take a look at the Tundra assembly line and you can see the difference. Toyota isn't perfect, but the product generally speaking is superior in reliability and quality over it's domestic rivals. Oh, don't get me started on the recent back to back Silverado ZR2's I had...one I kept for 24 hours and the dealer took it back. The second, guess what...it had all 4 doors and hood peeling paint just like the first one. Tranny shifts were horrible, and I was getting a loud ticking noise right before I got rid of the 2nd one that inevitably could have been the known lifter issue - stay away from GM. I do have friends that still have their Raptors and have been mostly problem free.

Your '21 Raptor did not have Cam phaser problems, that has been addressed and non existent in all Eco-Boosts manufactured post August of 2019. Fender flares on the 21 are terrible, paint peeling on all of them, but that is attributed to the manufacturer, not Ford. My fit and finish on the 21 37PP is excellent, and love the Recaro's. But I guess YMMV

Correct, my '18 did have cam phaser issues. Sorry, I meant to say my '21 had hard shifting tranny issues that had to be reflashed several times and never seemed to work it's way out. Nonetheless, glad you're having good luck with your '21 and hope that continues to be the case.

    Completely agree.

The Pro is great, but it’s a huge upcharge for what amounts to mostly an appearance package compared to the Off Road trim. If I go gen 3 in the future, it’ll probably be a TRD Off Road. Full disclosure: I did buy the Pro suspension for my ‘21 SR5 TRD Off Road. It’s fantastic, but not worth the $10k upcharge for the Pro IMO. I pieced it together for around $3k, a little less actually. And I have a fully OEM, mid-travel setup that fits skinny 35s no problem.
