Hey, good day everyone. A few months ago, I discovered this magic button in my truck known as Tow/Haul mode. Not only does it wake up my engine, but I also got better gas mileage and I have been using it ever since. Is there any harm in turning it on and driving with it all the time? I am talking short commutes to the grocery and long road trips. I understand it is supposed to be used for towing, but man it turns your vehicle into a large muscle with it on. Thanks.

Don't leave it on all the time. It's not what it was designed for. Get the Banks Pedal Monster.

Absolutely not if you don't consider your engine wear, blown transmission, rear tires twice a year (YMMV), excessive brake wear, speeding tickets and of course tons and tons of gasoline.

So have you discovered what happens when you turn off the traction control also? Search beast mode. Not for all the time, but way fun.

not to hijack but curious.... did you just remap shift points to accommodate larger tires or was it strictly a performance minded tune?

Some Tundra owners have changed the normal shifting parameters to the tow haul set points since HPT came out. Tuning companies change em up for better performance and response

For better results get some 5.29 gears, a powertrax grip pro, and a Whipple supercharger.

Hey guys, thanks for the quick responses. I have heard of pedal commanders before, but never really considered them because I am not very tech savvy. I will definitely read up on them and purchase one when I get extra funds.

The odd thing is the truck feels and drives smoother with ease with Tow/Haul Mode activated. I feel that the truck rides sluggish, overloaded, and underpowered with it off. It actually feels like I am driving a V8 with T/H M activated lol. I also get better fuel economy BTW with T/H Mode activated. I tested and hand calculated so I feel my results are pretty accurate. Probably because I don't have to press too hard on the accelerator.

Tow/haul is not just for towing; it’s also for hauling.

And if your truck is anything like mine, weighing 6,000 lb empty, it probably appreciates the help hauling itself around. No, there is absolutely no harm in driving in tow/haul mode. It just makes it seem like you have a heavier foot and changes the shift programming in the transmission.

I do believe you when you say you get better gas mileage. I know that I do better if I accelerate to the speed limit more quickly (spirited acceleration, not smiles-per-gallon acceleration :)) rather than being super gentle about it.

I use tow/haul often. There’s a long interstate grade nearby where I can hold 6th gear @ 65mph only if I’m in tow/haul mode. I don’t like using it in town because of how jumpy it is off the line.

My buddy with the 2009 LMM Duramax has put every one of his 190k miles on his truck in tow/haul mode. The only side effect is that his original brake pads are still good.

    Same.

Maybe I would get used to it eventually and develop a feather touch on the gas pedal. Maybe not.

I've just always been happy with my truck the way it is. :)

If you use tow haul and turn off one or two of the traction assist controls will it burn rubber? Maybe even in a heavy long bed?

If I floored it from a dead stop on tow haul I'm not sure what would happen.

I have a feeling it would look about like this.
