Any reason why Morimoto XB LED Heads and Tails would kill my battery?

    Hi folks!

So I just recently installed the Morimoto XB LED Headlights, Taillights and 3rd brake light on my 2020 SR5 Tundra. I got everything wired up and headlights worked amazing with full functionality (Hi & lows, level adjustment, Amber DRLs, side markers, all worked as intended). I actually think my particular OEM headlight was the most plug and play friendly with Morimoto (Halogen bulbs with LED DRL strips at bottom of headlight. No fuse tap and no turn signal adaptor, pretty much just plugged in all factory parts of harness in and everything worked! However yesterday morning I went out to start my truck, it unlocked cab lights came on, but the truck wouldn't even attempt to turn over. I connected the battery to a charger for about 7 hours and went out to try again and it, once again, wouldn't even try to turn over after sitting on the charger.

Now this could be as simple as I need a new battery and I was actually going to replace my current battery in the next couple weeks anyways, I just find the timing of my battery going Kaput 2 days after installing new heads and tails very suspicious. And I really dont want to buy a new battery and instantly kill it, if it is a problem related to the heads and tails. Any thoughts?

Your truck being a 2020, this is about the time the factory battery would crap out, especially moving into colder weather. Have the battery load tested, it is probably the issue.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. Just hard to believe its a coincidence that the battery bites the dust immediately after installing new lights, but it was time for a new battery anyways. Will go pick a new one up today and hopefully it doesn't immediately get killed. Thank you for the help!

I'm betting that you just had unlucky timing. Batteries only last about 3 years. If yours had no change after being on a charger for 7 hours, then it's shot. The battery in my truck went from good, to weak starting, to dead in about 24 hours.

Okay great to hear, another check mark for the unlucky timing column! It has to be the battery cause theres just nothing pulling power when the truck is off, unless im a moron and left my cab lights on or something but 98% sure that isnt the case. I figured it could be something related to me not using the fuse tap that came with the headlights (Everything was plug and play and worked without the fuse tap) but even that wouldn't really explain a dead battery. Anyways, time to pick up a new one and Ill report back! Thank you!!

No problem. The fuse tap powers the DRL. I have heard of a couple of people not using them. I think that causes the DRL to turn off completely when the headlights are on....I don't recall of the top of my head.

Yeah that is so strange as the DRL’s were working both with the lights off and on. Very strange. Anyways, going to by a new battery and see what happens. Hope I don’t kill it immediately!! Will report back. Have a great weekend!!!
