As the title says. Just wondering if that’s a possibility. Also, if I decide to go with components, can I replace the tweeter in the factory location or do I need to install one in the sail panel.

thanks again for all the help.

Considering I'm doing just that (replacing front/rear speakers and not tweeters), I'd say it's a possiblity. :p

I don't think it's a question of whether or not you can or can't replace the factory location tweeters as it is a question of ease. Everything I've read (and I could be wrong) says it sounds better and is easier if you simply replace with sail panels w/tweeters (or install speakers in stock sail panels) instead of replacing stock tweeters.

I'll let you know early/mid next week if you don't hear anything else as my speakers/sail panels get here Monday. :)

Are you talking about the dash tweeters?
Do you have a jbl or non-jbl

Yes...dash tweeters. I didn’t know if there were aftermarket tweeters that would fit in that spot.
    I have a non-JBL system.

Just disconnect the dash tweeters when you install components in your doors.
You can buy the oem sail panels from the jbl system that have the grills or you can drill a hole in the sail panel and mount the tweeter in there.

Make sure to replace and/or bypass the factory amp under the passenger seat or you'll only get lows and mids using the door speaker wiring, no highs at all.

Non JBL crappy Entune...So what I did was install Kicker Key 180.4 amp, under the seat, after the stock amp, going to Kicker speakers in doors..It's a process, you download and play test tones, it listens thru a microphone and adjusts accordingly with signal processor.. Big difference. I kept stock dash tweeters connected in place , looking to replace them soon with dome tweeters or see if 3 1/2" 2 ways will fit..

You can replace the tweets in the dash corners as well as the center channel.

I have factory doors with JL Audio C1's in the dash. Sound great.

Since posting this I got a set of Infinity 6530’s that I’m hoping to put in this weekend. I like the idea of what you did though @purplenova

Did the tweeter mounts come with and direct fit or did you buy or make them??

Haha this..I made that mistake. Its all good now.

For the OP... Yes, its very easy to drill a hole in the sail panel. No need to buy pre made one. I would say that's easier than trying to retrofit it in the factory location. Whatever component set you buy should come with instructions. Just go and get a hole saw bit for the size listed in the instructions.

Also, some guys recommend pulling the factory dash speakers after running components. I left them on, just to see what they sound like. I was actually surprised that they added some nice fill.

I replaced with Infinity Kappa component with tweeters in sail panels. No need to waste money on new sails. Just cut holes with a hole saw. Don't expect much improvement unless you replace the factory amp. Even though the Infinities are supposed to sound good on lower wattage I was not happy without the after market amp.

I purchased a 38mm hole saw bit to help with cutting the factory sails. I just bought a Kicker KXA800.5 to power everything and eliminate the need for a separate LOC. I’m gonna use the Kicker KISL’s to connect the fronts and rears to the amp and then I’ll just go out to the sub from there. Since I made this post, I found Tex’s build thread and decided to just handpick all the equipment I want and go from there. Someday I’ll get the time to install it all.
