Hey guys. I have been waiting for over a month for my 6112’s to arrive And I’m sick of waiting. I have my 5160 rears sitting here for a month now. I’m finding the 8112s in stock everywhere and I’m thinking of canceling the 6112 and ordering the 8112s. Question is, is there any problem with running the 5160s in the rear with the 8112s upfront. Obviously it’s also a major price increase because you need UCA’s as well. What do you think?

@bmw345 this is my exact setup now. I have the 8112s up front with the bilstein UCAs to match, and 5160s in the rear. The 8112s ride SO much better than the 6112s. Much more plush and comfortable, and just soaks up the bumps. I'll be upgrading the rears to 8100s whenever I get some extra money. I have other projects that need my attention first.

I'd say go for it. You won't regret getting the 8112s, but you might regret getting the lesser 6112s (if you can find them)

Sumo do you have any pics, what wheel and tire combo are you running. I just bought Method 701's 17's with a zero offset. I was thinking my max would be 285/70-17. Also the bodies on the 8112's appear to be untreated steel. I worry about corrosion up here in the Northeast. Also considering the TRD pro shock package from Sparks. Thanks for the answers!

I believe the 8112s are zinc coated, but bilstein recommends waxing them or doing something similar to keep the coating nice. You could probably just hit them with fluid film if you wanted.

As far as what tires will fit, I'm no help in that area, I have an aftermarket bumper and no mud flaps, and I did a BMC. I'm running my 8112s at max height, 3.25in. And I have 295/70r18 Mickey Thompsons with Level 8 MK6 wheels, I believe 17 offset. 20211215_145833.jpg 20211216_163010.jpg

Looks great Sumo, here's my problem. 2K for the two front 8112's. Around $400 for the rear 5160's. Then the Bilstein UCA's $650. Lots of extra labor to install the UCA's. For 3K I can get The whole TRD Pro Fox setup and I think it would be a little better system and definitely better rear shocks. Those 8112's do look badass though

Aren’t the 8112 adjustable? Just set them at 2” and call it a day. Don’t mess with UCAs and you could still fit 35s…..

I only needed UCAs because I lifted mine 3.25in, as @dpast88 said, if you only go 2in, you don't need aftermarket UCAs. The 8112s are better than the fox shocks, even though they utilize the same technology, the 8112s are much beefier, and you don't need bump stops or limit strap with them. And they only need to be rebuilt every 100k miles, and the fox shocks need to be rebuilt every 50k. Just something to consider.

Same here. But now that I have the money, I wanna have all the fun! I got a deal on my 8112s as well

And your leaf springs cost as much as my first truck :p

Yes they are adjustable to a min 0f 2.25 inches of lift. UCA required because of contact with res hose. Here is the quote from Bilstein:

"These dampers must be installed with aftermarket upper control arms. The OEM upper control arms will contact the reservoir hose, potentially causing damage. Please install with Bilstein Upper Control Arms, part # 51-304706. Dirt King and Built Right Fab upper control arms work with these dampers as well as Camburg upper control arms when the dampers are at the highest ride height setting. Total Chaos arms do not clear the hose and are not recommended."

Always something once modifications begin. Adapt to it or bail out are about the only two options.

I forgot about the hose being in the way. But you can adjust them to factory ride height. I'll have to find the instructions that came with them.

I appreciate it brother! I got alot of inspiration from this forum, but I wanted to be different and stand out. I believe I'm the first on this forum with 8112s installed, bilstein UCAs, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/Ts, homemade cat shield/skid plate combo, and a DIY rough country bumper.

It has been a labor of love, and I can honestly say I'm good on mods for awhile I don't have much else I wanna do. Rock sliders, new leather, and a trd shift knob is about all that's left on the list.

Don’t let UCAs scare you. Are you installing everything or paying a shop? Only asking because I found the UCAs were easier to install then weaseling the Coilovers assembly in. It’s the ball joint and the long pivot bolt. Hardest part is sliding the bolt out around the wires and hoses.

I went with JBA arms. Under $600 and great alignment numbers (at 2.5” of lift). 471A4BFA-1062-4376-A081-A1A024757BD4.jpg

So I am torn, waiting over a month for 6112's. Shock Surplus sent out my 5160's right away so they are here. I am seriously thinking about returning the 5160's and going with the full TRD pro set up from Toyota. I like the 8112's but the prospect of changing UCA's = more money for labor as I have to pay a guy to install these. I also have the extended Toyota warranty and I think Toyota would be more apt to cover items if I was to have a driveline related failure with the TRD Pro fox's in stead of aftermarket UCA's and the Bilstein 8112's and diff drops, skid plate drop brackets ETC. I also worry about the coil overs finish over the years in the Northeast Salt on the 8112's. I think the Pro shocks have a more durable finish all around. What you all think?

It all comes down to if it’s a good value for you. I wouldn’t buy the 6112. I’d go with Eibach instead. No way could I ever justify the 8112 and UCA for what I do, but I’m not you.

If you have the coin, get the TRD pro shocks! I have heard nothing but good things about them but they are overpriced like all OEM items.

Im leaning toward the TRD Pro Foxs, Whats the offset on your icons? I plan to run 17" methods with 0 offset and also 285/70 17 K02's. Hope they fit!

My icons are +25 which seems to be the sweet spot. I have had 295/70r17 on stock suspension. I did lose my front mud flaps, aero flap, and had to trim the liners per the link below. I do like methods though, I hope to sell my icons to buy some lighter methods later this year. I have been eyeing up the 316s.

Change of plan. I am returning my 5160’s and was sick of waiting for my 6112’s. I have decided to go with the Fox Trd Pro set up from Toyota. Anyway just got 285/70 17’s mounted on my new 701’s and they look really nice. Plan is to do the suspension when it arrives first and then mount the 701’s after no more salt. upload_2022-2-13_14-17-41.jpg
