Just curious to see if anyone has come from the 15-20 f150’s to the new tundra? I’ll be in the market in the next couple of years. Please don’t roast me too much for being a ford owner

How do you use your truck? Daily driver, towing, offroading . . . . . ?

I am currently in a 2014 F150 Ecoboost and was looking closely at the Tundra's when they first came out but I've kind of lost interest as I have watched on this forum and elsewhere. Ford still speaks to me more and, while all brands of trucks have certain pluses and minuses, Ford seems the most well rounded.

Most people here will instantly start yelling about Ford's crap quality and Toyota's infinite superiority but I have thoroughly enjoyed my F150 for 9 years and 112k miles. I do know that Ford has been having QC issues lately but it does seem like they are trying to turn it around. Hopefully we see some improvement over the next few years.

    I had a 2016 F150 2.7, a 2018 F150 3.5 and a 2019 F150 2.7. My current work truck is a 2017 F150 5.0 with 140k on it. All 4wd, all super crew except my work truck is a super cab.

All of the trucks were excellent. Very comfortable, super quiet and had good equipment/value for the price.

I switched back to the tundra as I really enjoyed my 2014 and wanted to check out the new platform. It's definitely not as quiet on the highway as any of my Ford's, but that's the only knock I can give it. I seriously considered a Tremor with the 5.0, but refused to pay sticker or above for a truck that won't hold its value. All of those Fords were purchased brand new for 13-15k below sticker and for the money, I had no regerts.

I should probably add, the tundra has way better power than the 2.7 and 5.0, but can't compete with the 3.5. They are beasts. I think with some tuning work, the tundra would give it a run for its money, but out of the box it just doesn't have the same grunt. That said, I didn't buy any of them for racing and the Tundra is WAY more than adequate.

My friend who is a service director for Ford told me the best trucks they made were from around 2008 to 2018. He said the quality of trucks Ford has been putting out the last 4-5 years is vastly different than the previous years. Quality and reliability have been suffering. Maybe it's an auto manufacturers trend across the board lately?

This is even more true if you run 93 octane in them. They make way more power than advertised, which is why they are running in the 13's in the 1/4 mile, while the Tundra and most other half tons are mid/high 14's.

I currently have a XLT 17 3.5 ecoboost with 112k miles. Had the phasers fixed under partial warranty at 89k miles. Trans has been clunky since day one which is slight annoying. I have a slight seep from my plastic oil pan but not dripping yet. I do most daily driving and using the bed for tons of different things but no real towing. Just want a nice comfy daily that has a bed for landscaping, lumber projects at home and stuff. I am sucker for a tan interior and the 1794 has been calling to me since it came out. Never been a Toyota guy but I absolutely love my wifes Lexus and the quality of it hence why I have been drawn to this forum. The 21 intrigued me but since I’m adding a little one here soon I’m pretty partial to good crash ratings.

Some people like it and actively try to make their trucks faster and take them to the strip. There is a whole industry devoted to it. Sorry if its not your thing.

But how bout that reliablility! Dang impressive. Really gets the heart pumping

I feel like the regular tundra 3.5 is not meant to compete against the ecoboost 3.5, the tundra 3.5 hybrid is and infact has more power. The regular tundra 3.5 feels like its more of a 2.7 ecoboost competitor.
That being said the ecoboost was the pioneer of the TT V6 platform in the half ton market, and has been kicking ass for over a decade.

I'm honestly not sure if the ecoboost is really even stronger . I think the weight has more to do with it. These tundras are significantly heavier which makes a huge difference. I'd like to see a heads up between a similar ecoboost and tundra but with weight added to the Ford or cut out of the tundra. I think people would be surprised. Yeah, I know trucks aren't made for racing, blah, blah. Blah. . .but. . It would be interesting. . .

Make sure you test drive a real 1794, not just stare at them on a screen and read about them. That'll help settle you on what you want or not.

Came from a 2015 f150 3.5 xlt sport to a SR5 trd sport. Other than the muffler rusting through and a rear differential seal replaced under warranty it was trouble free. Always liked the tundras and wanted to try something different. Also to replace my exact ford in a ‘23 was about $63-64,000 where the tundra was $57,000. That made the choice easy. I do miss my door keypad tho.

I have sat in a gen 2 1794 and I loved the color of that interior. I’ll have to go take a gen 3 for a spin soon.

My 2010 SR5 has 88,000 issue free miles on it and is the ideal truck for my uses (after a hundred or so "mods":D) That 3.5 V6 Ford has in it's F-150 has always appealed to me, as has F-150's looks. I've been close to several with Ford's 3.5 and the quietness is really surprising. I'd also venture to say, if there was a F-150 with Ford's EB V6 in my garage, instead of my Tundra, I'd be just as pleased or it would be GONE in short order!

So been Ford guy forever until recently. Still own a 2014 STX 5.0 that I gave my youngest, traded the 2021 STX 5.0 and purchased a 2017 Raptor. The Raptor is why is switched.. it broke me with way too many issues ( sunroof went out, both IWEs replaced, oil pan replaced because of leak and several other small things.

How would you compare interior wise? Seat comfort, total room? The tundra is a couple inches smaller for shoulder room, hip room and head room? Also bed dimensions? Does it seem much smaller than your raptor 5.5?

I came from a 2015 F-150 supercrew lariat with the 3.5 ecoboost. I never had any major problems with the ford in my 8 years and 60k miles of ownership, but I did have the truck fixed under warranty a number of times for hubs, oil leak, moon roof issue, rear door latches and a paint issue ford would not cover. I did like the truck, loved the ecoboost engine, but I really grew tired of my local ford's service department. My wife has always driven toyota and lexus, and the build quality of her cars have been far superior to any ford or gm truck I have owned.

Now that I have been in a 23' platinum since March I will say the F150 seemed to get a little better fuel economy, and had quicker throttle response. The toyota is a nicer truck, WAY better headlight and technology, a smoother ride, and I feel the inside is more refined and higher quality. So far I have had 0 issues with the tundra. I do wish the tundra had adjustable foot pedals, but after looking at gm, ford, etc, I felt the new tundras were the nicest/best option for me. That said, I am glad I waited for a 23 MY, as most of the issues seem to be 22 MY trucks.

2021 F150 Platinum Powerboost here. Purchased it because of Tundra delays on the launch. Always been a Toyota Truck or Lexus family prior. I love the Ford's tech, the comfort, power, mpg's, etc. It's a very nice truck. However, I've seen the Ford service dept way too many times for only having 23,000 miles on it and babying it. Drove a 23 Tundra Platinum last month and it's very different than the Ford but felt great and exactly what I'd expect from a Toyota Truck. I think the Ford is a little flashier with the tech, the comfort and the power, but I definitely felt like the Toyota was more well rounded, even if not as "wow" as the F150 Platinum, and the Toyota was definitely built better. Just an opinion. As soon as I can find a decent deal on a Tundra, I'm buying it. I definitely won't own the Ford without a warranty based on my experience so far.

So I would say the Raptor felt a little different in several ways. The contours of the Raptor seats are a little better because they feel like they wrap around you a little more. Maybe a Raptor thing. The rear seat leg room appears to be less in the Toyota vs the Ford. Ford is roomy in the back seat area. I love the box under the rear seat of the Toyota but you do loose space to store groceries or other stuff on the floor. Can’t put a large box on the rear floor board with Toyotas under seat storage. Over all room in Toyota is good and I’m really pleased with my purchase but there is always something you give up when you switch truck brands. I’ve driven every brand because of work and personal use but Toyota and Ford have always been the best ones. Last thing I’ll say is my buddy owns his own auto repair shop and he told me if I ever worked for him I would never buy another vehicle again unless it was a Toyota. He said hands down Toyota has better tolerances throughout the vehicle. He has a Tundra with well over 200k miles on it with little to no issues. After the Raptor I believe him and don’t buy a Ford with a sunroof all 4 of our trucks with sunroofs have broken.

Well this next truck I’m buying is gonna be the one I keep for atleast 10 years hence the draw to Toyota. My ford dealership experience has been horrible but 99 percent of the time I do my own wrenching. The engine failure stuff is a little concerning. I know it’s early and I trust Toyota to figure it out. I was on the ram ecodiesel forum and these guys acted the same way the guys here do and they thing blew out bearings like it was nothing all the time. That gives me pause.

    Stock for now.
I am currently in a 2019 F150 XLT Crew Cab 4x4 2.7L. I've had it just over a year and put 20k miles on it in that time. In that time, my truck has been in the shop 5 times outside of oil/filter changes. 4 of those were for catalytic converter issues and one for a brake service at 50k. My rear pads were down to the metal and grinding. (I've never had to replace pads that early on any vehicle I've ever owned). Aside from those issues, I have general fit and finish issues were interior panels do not line up properly, a few lines on the rear window defroster do not work and the drivers seat constantly slides and creaks on me.

I traded in a 2018 Tundra Crewmax SR5 4x4 on this as I was able to get into the F150 for zero out of pocket. I had that truck for 52k miles, with absolutely zero issues. I got into the f150 because of the fuel mileage (Hand calc on the tundra was 14.3 avg and I average just over 21 on the F150) so I've saved quite a bit on fuel, and the tech features appealed to me. Carplay, remote start, app.

With that being said, I will be doing my best to get back into a Tundra as quickly as possible as it was a better fit and finish, better reliability, and overall was a lot more fun to drive. Not to mention the turning radius on the F150 is a joke compared to the 2.5 Gen Tundra.

I hope this helps you with your decision.
