Just trying to get a general feel for my newly purchased '06 with a V6 manual transmission truck. Let me know your any thoughts you have on it, any maintenance issues, anything I should be on the lookout for. It only has 78k on it so I feel like I'm basically getting a new truck!

Those had the newish at the time 4.0 v6 (1GR-FE) and 6sp manual (RA60). Both have proven to be very reliable (also used in 2nd gen Tacomas) but some of the RA60s had issues with excessive throw-out bearing wear...so keep an eye on that. If your's goes bad you want this...

I'm impressed by how much you know about Toyota vehicles. Did we determine if any manual 1st gens had 4x4? Or were they all 2WD?

It comes from owning them since 1986 (first Toyota was a 1978 Toyota Celica GT Hatchback in all it's beige glory hand me down from my grandpa) and pretty much shopping for various Toyota Trucks/SUVs consistently since 1998...:)

1st gen Tundras with V6s did come with 4x4 in 2000-2004, I've seen one in person. :) But I'm pretty sure they dropped the manual V6 4x4 option for 05/06 with the introduction of the new V6/6sp.

My first Toyota (or rather one that looks exactly like it)....

Ah, the MUCH sportier looking Celica coupe (especially with those white wheels!)....but I was happy to have the hatchback with the fold flat rear seats in HS if you know what I'm sayin' and I think you know what I'm sayin'....

You guys were rich to have those Toy sport cars. Here is my first car which is a 1974 Corolla. Not my picture, but pretty spot on with the pin stripe and wheel hub covers. 5spd manual. 40mpg?

If we're playing that game. Here's my 1st vehicle. 91 Runner that never ran right. Still my favorite vehicle. I will always hate the 3.0L V6 with a burning passion. What a underpowered dog. One of the slowest vehicles I've ever been in. Every time I'm tempted to buy another one I remember how much I hated that engine.

Back seat saw a lot of action though. :hattip:

Those are sweet wheels! A buddys 4runner had the same power issues and they were crampy as far as interior room. All the cool guys had these trucks.

Man I wish I had pics of my first car, or even my second. I didnt own a camera back then.

There were some rare 4x4 manuals, I dont think I've seen an 05/06 though.

Good purchase OP, that is a brand new truck. Was it an old man car?

Old woman owned it in the sticks in Virginia! I need something to tow a boat around town. I prefer to drive stick so that was definitely a bonus!

    I had a 93 T100 manual. It was 2WD and had the 3VZE...ahem...3.SLOW.

The tranny was great and so was the truck, no issues...and being manual it had the old fashioned toyota hand-emergency brake...which I miss. You could feather the clutch pulling a boat up a ramp and use your right hand to hold or relese the brake. My 87 pickup had that too.

2003 5VZ-FE V6 Access Cab with the 5-speed manual here. It is a heavy truck, and you really feel it when shifting. It's not the most refined manual transmission, but it's a truck, and plays the part well.

What was the name of the 5 speed transmission in the tundra? I’m thinking of buying a 4x2 2004 3.4 with auto. Would want to get a manual 5 or 6 for it. I guess I would need a driveshaft as well.

No experience with 1st gen Tundra manual tranny.

I did learn how to drive a stick shift using the 1st gen Tacoma 4x4 v6 during dealership test drives. It’s always fun to scare the bejeesus out of the person pulling up behind you at a light on an incline. I would typically give the truck gas and drop the clutch to avoid stalling and rolling back like a newbie.

That’s exactly the same style of wheel I want for my 04 Tundra. I wonder what they’re called or brand. Hopefully someone knows.

Old centerline wheels design. There are several of that style now IIRC.
