I am searching for a tundra limited slip differential 3.91 ratio for my doublecab. Mine is making howling whining noise and I've searched the entire country on car-part.com to find one and haven't come across one.

Anyone have a spare or know of anyone with a part out? It must be whine-free and wear-free beyond normal wear and tear. Just can't cough up the $1300 from ECGS currently.

You have a 2006 double cab and the rear end is 3.91? Believe all of those are 4.10's. If you are 2wd, then it could work. Need more info to help.

No im pretty sure it’s a 3.91 LSD. At least that’s what the dealer told me and the vin decoder.

I think it's just the 2004 DCs and some Sequoias that came with the 4.10's.

OP should be able to confirm here though if not 100% sure. https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification.

Good luck OP! Hope you can figure it out.

Is your truck the access cab configuration with the 2 clamshell doors, or the "crew cab" configuration with the 4 full size regular opening doors?

Does appear to be either the 3.91 or the 3.92 depending on drive type. Not sure what the subtle difference is, but would make sure it came out of the same type as yours, whatever that is.

There's a page of 3.91 locking that show up when I search? Although the cheapest is still $1100.

Couple things though. It doesn't NEED to be an LSD rear, you can replace it with a non. If you're truck is only 2wd it doesn't NEED to be 3.91 either, you can swap whatever you'd like in there.

It may be cheaper than both options to have a local shop diagnose and maybe just need get a rebuild

Yeah my local shop wants $1200 for a full rebuild with an LSD. And my truck is 4x4 so needs to be 3.91.

I’m just hoping to find a decent used one to hold me over for a while. The truck runs fine actually but I need to get rid of the whining that’s driving me nuts

Best of luck to you. I needed a 3.91 open diff and the best I could find was $1400 at a dealership in Georgia. I live in California, so shipping cost way too high. Pretty much not an off the shelf part. OEM on order, $2150. and it's taking forever to get here. Argh! At least I get a full warranty.

What state are you in? you can find a LSD 3.91 ratio all day at any Toyota wrecker. ebay has one with free shipping for $526. ECGS will rebuild it for $750 if you want to go that route

I need the whole carrier and do NOT want used. Appreciate it. I don't have the shop or tools or time to mess with a rebuild. Thanks

Hey Thanks. I am in Florida but I will cover shipping. Where is the link to that one on ebay? I don't see it. Can you source me one? I am open to non-LSD just for sake of finding one, but would of course prefer to keep my LSD if I can find one.

2000-2006 tundras and 2001 to 2007 sequoia all used 30spline axles with the "8.4" bridge cap third member. This makes it pertty cool because you can get factory thirds with 3.90, 4.10 and 4.30 ratio gears

From the research I've done, only a doublecab rear carrier will fit in my truck. Am I wrong? And does it need to be specifically an 05-06?

As far as i've found they all are interchangeable. Where did you find the info saying they are different?

I think that the difference is the width of the entire axle housing. The double cabs may be different from the ACs and RCs. In that case, it's the axle shafts that are different and not the third member that would be different.

@empty_lord or @assassin10000 may be able to confirm

Gotcha. Well that makes sense. Either way I don’t want to swap my whole axle I would much rather just swap the pumpkin. Fingers crossed I can find a 3.91 LSD….

Your biggest problem with a used LSD 3rd member will without a doubt, not be limited slip any more. Mine was worn out and from what ive found they wear out in about 50,000 miles more or less. So you'd be getting an "open" with a used unit

Just took a quick look at the specifications for 2004.

    RC rear track width: 64.9"
    AC rear track width: 64.9"
    DC rear track width: 67.3"

Right so that affects only the axle one would presume and not the carrier itself. And anyway either way I’d need a double cab limited 05 06 if I want the LSD and the 3.91

yeah that doesnt affect the 3rd member at all. My 03 came with a LSD and 3.91 GR so you can use any year you like that has that ratio

Was there any LSD that was not a 3.91? Or were all the LSDs 3.91 ratio? I just found one for pretty cheap, it is an LSD, but they don’t know what gear ratio.

I just need to confirm that it will work. It is 100% an LSD, and all my google-fu skills are showing that only a 3.91 lsd pops up. So is it safe to assume it’s a 3.91 if Toyota never offered any other gear ratio for the LSD?

Do they know they VIN of the donor truck? You can look that up to see what it is.
