I installed my HAM radio but similar principles. I have a table of contents and if you keep scrolling you’ll see what and how I mounted my remote head. Idk what your set up looks like but if it helps, great.

I did a GMRS install, but opt'ed for the Wouxun KG-1000 instead of a Midland unit. I don't think my install would work for that Midland unit, if I'm thinking of the correct one with all of the controls in the handheld. I like the Wouxun for the ability to have a remote head unit install. Usually, you only find that option in high end HAM setups.

Here's a link to my build thread post with my install, if it helps for ideas: Wouxun KG-1000 GMRS Install. It's got a walkthrough of my cable routing, etc that might be helpful for your install.

Does the Wouxun have a SD card or ability to record radio traffic, for use in a video (youtube) etc?

Mine doesn't have onboard recording capability, no. You'd need to run an audio out to a recorder via the aux jack. Wouxun has since released a newer version, the KG-1000PLUS, since I bought my unit. I'm not sure what feature differences on the newer unit though.
